The twenty six minutes before help arrived, the MISSING MINUTES and what I think happened and why that day.
This part of the debunking might need to be rated as R
The question of how Rita Cosby obtained copies of Howard K. Stern’s cell phone records was questioned by me in part 1 of the debunking of Chapter Thirteen and how accurate they might be. In the accidentally leaked excerpt of Stern’s deposition we now know he alleges that someone stole his cell phone records and gave them to Rita Cosby. It would appear that mystery is solved, but how did Cosby get copies of Tas and Moe’s cell phone records, unless the “investigators” mentioned throughout the book provided them. I think we can all remember who Rita Cosby “alleges” those “investigators” were and if so, the book should have been written by them and not her, unless they needed that “Award winning Journalist” attached to the publishing of “a” book.
So let’s begin part two of the final and most detailed chapter in Cosby’s book by debunking it. I am also going to suggest another “analogy” just as believable I think as the one Cosby came up with. It will be shocking but the question is why did no one pursue this possible angle?
Remember at the end of Part 1 of this series of debunking Cosby’s book I suggested you remember the following: “As you get ready for the next part of our debunking of “The Blond Ambitious, Ms. Cosby’s book”, remember two things, a Melodie Delancy spent the night in Moe’s room the night before this fateful day and that, “Tas unenthusiastically agreed to stay.”
Beginning where we left off in Part 1 of debunking this chapter we begin with the leaving Anna Nicole Smith’s care in the hands of an R. N., Tasma “Tas” Brighthaupt, as well as a friend, Brigitte Neven. From this chapter as well as other accounts in the news following Anna Nicole Smith’s death, it appears that Howard K. Stern thought Moe Brighthaupt would only be gone from the hotel for less than 30 minutes and so Anna Nicole Smith would have an R. N., a friend, and her trusted bodyguard, Moe to watch over her while Stern was at the boat making the final preparations for the return to the Bahamas with a yacht that Anna Nicole could sail the healing Caribbean waters on as she loved to go boating from what I have read about following all of these cases.
With that said, let’s begin the minute by minute cell phone records “play” that Rita Cosby supplies us.
“…12:14 PM …Howard, Moe, King Eric and the first mate exited Room 609 together. Moe [Brighthaupt] left to do errands we are told. “King” Eric [Gibson, the first mate, not named], and Howard [K. Stern] headed to the Royal Palms Yacht Basin, leaving Tas and Brigitte in the suite with Anna [Nicole Smith] in bed.” I would suspect after being so ill since Monday night or was it Tuesday night? Either way it would appear that Anna Nicole Smith felt better by Wednesday and with a slow recovery that by Thursday, Anna Nicole felt she needed rest before heading back to the Bahamas on the Yacht. I have read in accounts of Anna Nicole Smith’s life that she tended to sleep during the day and was a night owl by choice or habit.
”… 12:17 PM … Howard made his second call to Mark Dekema. Though Dekema doesn’t recall specifically what Howard asked during which phone conversation, he does remember Howard calling “incessantly” to discuss various things right before the appointment. Howard asked for directions, saying he was coming from the Hard Rock. He also asked if the work on the boat had been completed and Dekema says he gave Howard some ideas for where he could get boat supplies. Howard called Mark Dekema five times between twelve and one o’clock.” If the memory of Mr. Dekema is correct and Stern’s alleged stolen cell phone records are correct, beginning at noon we have one call, then a second call at 12:17 PM, and three more calls between 12:17 PM and 1:00 PM. It appears from the book we have one call that would be for directions; one call that would be for both directions and where to stop on the way to the 1:00 PM appointment to “get boat supplies”, and per Cosby perhaps one call to shoot the bull, or to ask another question as “King” Eric and the first mate told Howard K. Stern what was needed for the trip back to the Bahamas on the yacht. One of the five calls per Cosby was simply to ask if the work on the boat had been completed. Sounds like “incessantly calling” to me what about to you?
Then we get into the call by call of what happened from the time Moe left and the calls between him and Tas, and to me another scenario begins to unfold. See if you can guess where I am going with my “thoughts” of allegedly what might have been going on that afternoon.
”…12:27 PM … Moe called his wife Tas, still on “errands”, perhaps to tell her he would be gone longer than the original fifteen to thirty minutes he thought he would be gone. We have two accounts, one that Moe gave to the media in interviews right after Anna Nicole Smith’s death that he was at his brother’s to help him move, now per Rita Cosby, “it was just to do errands”, but what errands? However later, Moe would say this is when he found out that Anna Nicole Smith was in trouble because as the book quotes; “Indeed, the initial scene investigation as documented by Seminole Detective Marian Bryant states something both interesting and perplexing. Around 12:30 PM the bodyguard’s wife checked on the decedent and observed her to be blue. She immediately called her husband, Maurice Brighthaupt, and informed him of the situation. She also started CPR in her capacity as a registered nurse. As soon as Maurice returned to the hotel, he immediately called the Seminole Emergency Medical Personnel around 1:40 PM.” The first problem with this is that it was Moe who called Tas at 12:27 PM not Tas calling Moe. The second problem is that it was 12:44 PM when Tas first called Moe if Rita Cosby has furnished us with all of the cell phone calls she was allegedly “privileged” to by the “investigators” and/or Moe and Tas. If in fact Anna Nicole Smith was in trouble by this call then why wasn’t Moe and Tas immediately kept by the Seminole Police for questioning as to why they allowed a woman who was clearly in need of life saving emergency intervention to be without that for not the twenty six minutes I am counting here but for 76 minutes? My question is could Anna Nicole Smith have awaken and could Tas had given her “accidentally” that fatal dose of chloral hydrate after her husband, an EMT, Moe called her and with Moe thinking it would be okay to give Anna Nicole Smith that last dose based on the fact the prescriptions had been kept in his room per the investigator’s report of the hotel suite after the death of Anna Nicole. I find that she was in trouble when Moe called at 12:27 PM not believable, but if as Tas had called Moe back as soon as she saw Anna Nicole Smith was in serious medical trouble at 12:44 PM, then the critical twenty six minutes would now be fifty six minutes, either number of minutes would have made it impossible to revive Anna Nicole Smith and if she had been able to be revived then there surely would have been severe brain damage. For the sake of giving Moe and Tas the maximum benefit of the doubt, I am going to say for the argument of debunking of the blond Ambitious Rita Cosby that Anna Nicole Smith was discovered in severe medical distress at 1:17 PM when the frantic calls between Moe and Tas began in earnest and not at 12:27 or 12:44 PM. If in fact the 12:27 PM or 12:44 PM calls is the actual time, then one has to wonder why no charges against Moe, a train EMT or Tas, a R.N. either one or both were investigated for “criminal negligence”, “involuntary manslaughter” or some other charge under Florida Criminal Statutes.
”…12:44… PM Tas called Moe… call lasted one minute.”
”…12:45… PM Tas called Moe again this call lasted four minutes.” It would appear that wherever Moe was on these “errands” something was amiss with Tas by 12:44 PM, due to two back to back phone calls lasting 5 minutes. Was Anna Nicole Smith already in trouble? Had Tas called Moe about giving Anna Nicole Smith some choral hydrate to help Smith “sleep”? Had Tas figured out that Moe was not doing errands, was not at his brother’s helping him move but was in fact at the home of Melodie Delancy? If my scenario of allegations for this argument is believable then we would have Tas, a wife, left to baby sit a woman she resented for being beautiful and had only met once for 30 minutes before this day; could Tas have been on the war path by now, pardon the analogy here.
Do you see where the analogy could change drastically of this whole last chapter if Moe had been at the home of his “Mistress” and Tas found out? In my opinion if Cosby had went down this road being “unbiased and a true journalist” she could have given us, the readers, some alternative finalities to choose from. Instead Cosby appears to have allegedly relied on the allegations of the “investigators” almost totally it appears. What if between noon and 12:44 PM, Anna Nicole had awakened and Tas had provided her with that last fatal dose of choral hydrate? What if this was a horrid accident strictly out of feeling put out by having to baby sit a knock dead gorgeous woman that Tas had felt she lost her husband to after Daniel’s death? Moe has stated in interviews he begin to spend more and more time at Horizons in the Bahamas. What if Tas is the one that actually gave Anna Nicole Smith that fatal does and then realized that Anna was in trouble by 12:44 PM or per the book no later than 1:17 PM, less than 30 minutes after the call to Moe at 12:45 PM?
”… 1:15 PM – 1:22 PM …Howard called boat broker Mark Dekema while he was with the boat handyman, Todd Smith, and “King” Eric at Royal Palms Yacht Basin. Dekema says Howard ended the call abruptly saying, “I have another call, I gotta take this.” According to Dekema he sounded a little urgent a little desperate. But we now know that at the time, Howard didn’t click over to another call. He would first check his voice mail at 1:23 PM and then he’d receive a call from Moe at 1:24 PM.” There is no doubt to anyone in this saga that by the call at 1:24 PM to Howard K. Stern by Moe, Anna Nicole Smith was in medical trouble, and that trouble led to her death. However the nagging question I feel will continued to be about whom actually allegedly did give Anna Nicole that fatal dose of choral hydrate, or did Anna Nicole do it herself? Was it intent to commit murder as Cosby tries to lead us towards Howard K. Stern, are was it a horrible accident by an R. N. turned baby sitter, which then Moe and Tas had to cover up that day?
Here is where we start the twenty six missing critical minutes that might have save Anna Nicole Smith’s life. At 1:17 PM Tas called Moe, that call lasted a minute at the most, we know that in all probability Anna Nicole Smith was in fatal trouble by this call, was Tas contacting Moe for help? I would think so but what type of help is the question that nags at me.
”…1:19 PM… Tas called Moe back again. The call lasted one minute” Who was doing CPR during what could be “allegedly incessantly” frantic calls between Tas and Moe? If they were frantic calls was it more than that Anna Nicole Smith was in serious and what would become fatal medical trouble by this point?
”… 1:22 PM… Moe called Tas that call lasted one minute”, now allegedly three frantic phone calls within five minutes between Moe and Tas, each lasting one minute. In interviews given by Tas especially with Greta Van Susteren’s On The Record, we know Tas is no small petite woman. Thus the different scenario here for me, with the training as an R. N. it would have been no trouble for Tas to have grabbed the sheet and pulled Anna Nicole Smith to the floor to begin CPR. With adrenaline pumping that would be easier yet, and with a second person to help, not a problem so why didn’t Tas’ training kick in by this time? Why the calls back and forth between Moe and Tas, presumably Moe was by this time in route back to the Hard Rock Hotel?
”…1:23 PM… Howard called his voicemail.” Cosby never makes it clear why this one minute call to Stern’s voice mail was important other than to attempt to point out that Howard K. Stern had lied to Mark Dekema, at the end of their seven minute call. Cosby points out that Stern had an incoming call that was important for him to take, or so he told Mark Dekema, in my opinion, this mystery will never be cleared up short of a full trial in the New York Southern District federal court on the merits of the case.
”… 1:24 PM… Moe called Howard [K. Stern]. It was a one minute phone call. Moe says that he told Howard to “get over there right away” Moe says Howard’s response was “Oh, okay,” then a few words more and then he clicked off. So far, all parties involved had publicly suggested there was only one call from Moe to Howard. In fact, here’s how Moe described the sequence of events. Moe said: His wife called him, he called Howard, he called the hotel liaison and “then I rushed back.” The first question I have here is who is “all of the parties involved”? I don’t remember a statement from Howard K. Stern on this and if any of you know where one is, then please share that link to a transcript with all of us. The second question was why would Moe lie? Did Moe lie to cover up where Moe really was if allegedly he was with Melodie Delancy? Did Moe lie to cover up the fact he was gone longer from the hotel then he said in the beginning? Did Moe lie to cover up for Stern, which seems very unlikely because no one was yet pointing any fingers at Stern? Did Moe cover up for Tas and if so why? To me the “frantic” phone calls that day seem to be more between Moe and Tas then anyone else present. We are now at seven minutes of Anna Nicole Smith being in serious medical trouble, how long when you stop breathing is it before brain damage begins to set in? How long is it when you see someone not breathing do you have time to begin CPR to try to save them? Did Tas and Moe make some serious mistakes during these seven minutes?
”…1:26 PM… Howard called Moe. This again was a one minute call.” Could Stern have been asking where Moe was and what was Moe’s take on how serious of a potential medical emergency might be unfolding. I have always wondered why Howard K. Stern did not have Tas’ cell phone number that day, and why he chose not to call the suite to talk to Tas or Brigitte during this time. That again is a question that will go unanswered unless there is a trial on the merits of this case and more importantly on the soundness of Cosby’s sources. We are now at nine minutes into this medical emergency and if Tas could not handle it why had the medical personnel at the hotel not been called yet? Was Tas doing CPR incorrectly or was Tas covering up a fatal mistake on her part?
”…1:27 PM – 1:34 PM…The boat handy man, [Todd Smith], says after Moe’s call, Howard did not seem upset at all. He answered several questions, including the fact that he forgot to bring the handyman his few hundred dollars for the repairs. He then said in a monotone voice, “I have an emergency and have to leave.” The handyman, [Todd Smith], said Howard “seemed very nonchalant when he said it. He didn’t seem distressed … acted like it was a minor business issue versus a personal crisis.” He walked back to his car. He didn’t rush. Given what he knows now, the handyman said Howard’s behavior was “extremely odd.” How did a handyman make this assessment of Howard K. Stern if they had never met before? How were “King” Eric and the first mate acting? Was there any conversation between King Eric, the first mate and Stern that Todd Smith overheard? Could Todd Smith have been more concern about not getting paid for the work he had done then Stern’s demeanor during this time? By the time the handyman remembers Stern leaving, Anna Nicole Smith had been in serious medical trouble for seventeen minutes and counting.
”…1:28 PM… Moe called his wife again. They spoke for four minutes. By this time Anna Nicole Smith had been in medical distress for eleven minutes and by the end of this four minute phone call Anna Nicole Smith had not been breathing for the last fourteen minutes, fourteen critical minutes that were literally life and death at this point. Who was doing CPR? Why were there so many frantic calls between Moe and Tas this early into the emergency? More importantly why had Tas forgot her training as an R. N. and no medical personnel had been called?
”… 1:31 PM… [would that not have been 1:32 PM if we are counting or did the call between Moe and Tas not last for four minutes of 1:28 PM until 1:32 PM], Moe called the hotel liaison on her cell. Almost simultaneously, she was also calling him.” Why was the hotel liaison, Lisa Arredondo, calling Moe, was she aware that there was a guest literally dieing in one of the hotel’s suites? If so why had she not dispatched the Hard Rock hotel’s medical personnel to check on this guest?
”…1:32 PM… Moe called the hotel liaison, [Lisa Arredondo,] on her cell. The game of phone tag was on, by this time Anna Nicole Smith had not been breathing and in serious medical trouble for fifteen minutes and counting.
”…1:33 PM… Moe called Hard Rock Gaming Commission Office where the hotel liaison works.
”… 1:33 PM, 1:34 PM, 1:35 PM, 1:36 PM … Howard now en route to the hotel, called Moe over and over again.” Did Moe pick up during any of these 4 calls all one minute apart? By now Anna Nicole Smith had been lifeless and in need of urgent medical intervention for sixteen minutes! By the time of Stern’s first call at 1:33 PM and nineteen minutes going on twenty minutes by the last call at 1:36 PM. I believe Anna Nicole Smith would have probably sadly been brain dead with no valid CPR to keep the blood flowing through her organs and into her brain by this point in the emergency.
”…1:36 PM… Moe called his wife Tas who was still in the room. 911 still has not been called.”
”… 1:36 PM… the hotel liaison, [Lisa Arredondo], called her boss, the Director of Operations. The Hard Rock Hotel was in a delicate situation.” Did the Hard Rock Hotel know they were in a delicate situation by now? Is this just Rita Cosby’s take or is she implying that medical help had been withheld to a visitor who had not been breathing for at least nineteen minutes and fast approaching twenty minutes. I just find that hard to believe so is this supposition on Cosby’s part or something the “investigators” told her later after interviewing employees at the Hard Rock Hotel?
”…1:37 PM… Howard made two calls to the hotel liaison back to back.” At this point it appears from the calls that Stern was in a full fledge panic trying to get information, per Cosby’s account, these calls were after making four calls back to back to Moe. Anna Nicole Smith had been lifeless and not breathing for a full 20 minutes now. Except that the EMTs and Dr. Perper both have said that when the EMTs arrived there was still a faint pulse and that the injection of one drug to stimulate the heart had circulated in the body which it would not have done if there was no pulse or heart beat at all.
“… 1:38 PM … Emergency services are finally called for. 911 cannot be called directly from a Hard Rock Hotel room phone, so Tas called a hotel operator who in turn notified hotel security of the emergency.” This was not the hotel medical emergency personnel it appears but hotel security. Did Tas at this time tell them Anna Nicole Smith was in desperate need of medical intervention? Who was doing CPR on Anna Nicole for the last twenty one minutes while all of the calls between Moe and Tas were going back and forth?
”… 1:38 PM… The hotel liaison called the Director of Operations again.”
”… 1:39 PM… The hotel liaison called the office of the hotel’s Director of Purchasing.”
”…1:40 PM… Seminole Police dispatched received an emergency call from Hard Rock Security.” Now it was a full twenty three minutes since Tas had realized something was terribly wrong and called Moe instead of the switchboard at the Hard Rock Hotel. Why did Tas not call the switchboard right at the start instead of waiting for Moe to get back twenty three minutes after Tas knew there was an the emergency? My question over and over again is why the frantic calls between Tas and Moe and no call for help?
”… 1:40 PM …Moe entered Anna’s room. Although Moe claimed he was in the room when 911 was initially called, he actually arrived two minutes later. He removed the covers and pulled Anna’s naked body from the bed and then he put her on the floor and began futile attempts at CPR.” By now Anna Nicole Smith had not received the critical CPR she needed for twenty three minutes, allegedly the difference between life and death.
”…1:43 PM … Hard Rock Hotel medical staff arrived to room 607”, thus the missing and critical twenty six minutes that Anna Nicole Smith appears to have went without much needed emergency medical care. The buck has to stop with Tas the R. N; the question is why did she not call the switchboard for help at 1:17 PM? Why did Moe not make sure that Tas had called for help? Why did Moe first lie on all of the interviews he gave? Were Tas and Moe covering something up and thus the frantic calls between them and not to the hotel switchboard for emergency medical care for Anna Nicole Smith?
”… 1:44 PM … the Seminole Police arrived to room 607.” This is now twenty seven minutes into the critical time trying to save Anna Nicole Smith, I would think that the Hard Rock Hotel Medical staff had taken over CPR and that both Tas and Moe were available to begin to answer questions as to why BOTH of them waited so long before making a frantic call to the switchboard for medical help. Will we ever know what they were asked and what answers they gave for waiting so long with so many calls between the two of them? Remember that Moe was a trained “EMT” and Tas is an R. N. so why did neither of them keep up with the time their training would have told them was the very difference between life and death for Anna Nicole Smith?
”… 1:44 PM … The hotel liaison called Howard.”
”… 1:47 PM … Seminole Fire Rescue arrived as does Hollywood Florida, Fire and Rescue.” This is now the twenty six + four additional minutes. I talked about at the beginning of this article, Anna Nicole Smith went without life saving medical care including CPR and calling for help in the emergency by Tas, Moe or Howard K. Stern. The question becomes that the full rescue unit could have been there within the first seven minutes if Tas or Moe had just alerted 911 or even the hotel operator. The in staff Hard Rock Hotel medical staff arrived within 3 minutes of being called. THREE MINUTES, SEVEN MINUTES, AND NOW THE MISSING 26 MINUTES, what happened and why did Tas “panic”? Was there something that she was so afraid of medical personnel finding out that by her own admission she only thought of calling Moe per Cosby’s book.
“When “private investigators” asked Tas how as a nurse she could let so much time pass before 911 was called, she said, “I don’t know. I just thought to call my husband. I WAS PANICKING.” Moe said that after the initial call from his wife, there were no other calls between them before he got back to the room. This is false as there was a flurry of calls between all the parties, yet incredibly no calls directly to 911. Remember that the reason Moe says he didn’t call 911 directly was that his cell phone was registered to a different county in Florida and because he claimed he did not know the address of the Hard Rock a place he’d been to frequently.”
”…1:48 PM … The hotel liaison called Howard’s cell.”
”… 1:51 PM … Howard entered the room. Tas said, “He had no reaction at first, he was unemotional.” Paramedics asked Howard, “How long has she been like this? “and “what was she talking?” According to Tas Howard answered, “I don’t know. I don’t know.” Howard then called Dr. Khris, who was back in California.”
“Although the coroner has never given an exact time of death, the last person to see Anna alive was, according to his own comments to police, Howard K Stern. But Howard is quick to point out that he wasn’t the one to discover her body. In fact, he made an unusual comment to a close friend that “He is tormented by Anna’s death and felt if he was the one who found her body, after being there during Daniel’s death, he would‘ve killed himself too. That the pain of finding her, after what happened with Daniel, would’ve been too much for Howard.” Stop the presses, why would Cosby find it “an unusual comment” that Stern had said if he had found Anna Nicole Smith dead, he would have wanted to kill himself? Hell, a lot of us have lost people not to tragic circumstances but natural causes or long illnesses and we have feelings of wanting to kill ourselves. When my father died three months after my mother’s death, the minister and doctors termed it a “passive suicide”, the modern day version of dying from a broken heart.
“There may be more concerns weighing heavily on Moe. After Anna’s death, Moe presented his story on Fox News, and said he had been gone “like fifteen minutes” from the hotel room when he called to check on how Anna was doing. He did call his wife at 12:27 PM, approx, fifteen minutes after he left the room. But what happened before hotel surveillance cameras have him arriving back at 1:40 PM is a bit strange and is still confusing.”
“From 12:27 PM to 1:40 PM… is obviously not “immediately.” It is also interesting to note that both Moe and his wife initially referred to 12:30 or about fifteen minutes after Moe left the room. Tas said when she spoke to Moe on the phone, “I don’t like what I’m seeing. Anna has purple splotches on her face and body. She’s not breathing and looks blue.” “Blue?” Moe asked.”
The part of this chapter that sticks out like a great big red light to me is the statement in Cosby’s book of, “When private investigators asked Tas how as a nurse she could let so much time pass before 911 was called, she said, “I don’t know. I just thought to call my husband. I WAS PANICKING!”
“Tas said she was shocked that Dr Perper asked her only a few questions: “Did you give Anna any medications?” and “Did you see her move?” I don’t find this “shocking”, Dr Perper had 26 minutes not accounted for; why would he not ask the ONLY person in the room for that majority of time those two questions?
My thoughts are why were Moe and Tas not immediately taken into custody and rigorously “interviewed”, questioned by the Seminole police. Could they have taken them into custody to ask those critical questions and for some reason Cosby decided to leave that little bit of information out of the book? One could make the allegation that Cosby purposely leads us to believe it was Howard K. Stern responsible for the death of Anna Nicole Smith for nefarious reasons.
Because chapter 13 is the longest chapter in the book, part three will begin at 1:51 PM when Howard K. Stern entered a room and knew by the amount of people in the bedroom giving frantic medical intervention to his beloved Anna, that something horrible had happened.
Remember two things as we go into part three, why did Moe and Tas wait so long, twenty six minutes as trained medical people, not just you or me, to call for help, when help was just seven minutes away? The second is Cosby’s stupid allegation in my thoughts of, “In fact, he made an unusual comment to a close friend that “He is tormented by Anna’s death and felt if he was the one who found her body, after being there during Daniel’s death, he would‘ve killed himself too. That the pain of finding her, after what happened with Daniel, would’ve been too much for Howard.”
One thing that really stuck out to me was in the “accidentally leaked” portion of Howard K. Stern’s deposition excerpt he states that upon learning of these twenty six minutes at the end of March 2007 when Dr. Perper’s autopsy was released that he, Stern, has never spoken to Moe again.
What are your thoughts of what happened during those “TWENTY SIX MISSING MINUTES”“twenty?
