L. A. times Reporter Robert Faturechi stated in an article that; “A suspect in a fatal Los Angeles shooting who was captured in Puerto Rico only to flee again after being released on bail was arrested in Van Nuys on Thursday afternoon, law enforcement sources said. Zareh Manjikian is suspected of fatally shooting a 19-year-old just hours after the teen sent an insulting text message in a bizarre slaying that drew wide-scale media attention.

More than a year after the slaying, Manjikian was tracked down to a beach town outside Puerto Rico’s capital city, San Juan, where federal authorities arrested him.”

Authorities had asked Judge Gloria Maynard in Puerto Rico to hold Manjikian without bail during extradition proceedings, but she set bail at $50,000. Zareh Manjikian promptly paid the bond and fled Puerto Rico that “shocked police in Los Angeles, who have been investigating the case for more than 18 months”, and Mike Ypremyan’s parents, Ani and Art Yepremyan who could not believe that a judge had allowed Manjikian to be released on a no bond request by U. S. Marshals.

On Thursday afternoon, Manjikian was arrested by a federal fugitive task force at the courthouse in Van Nuys. The murder suspect was attempting to turn himself in, but was arrested before he could, said LAPD Det. Thomas Townsend. When Manjikian was first captured by U.S. marshals in Puerto Rico, his brother was arrested with him on unrelated charges. Authorities said that it appears Manjikian, after being released on bail, may have assumed his brother’s identity to fly from the island territory to Philadelphia, and then to Las Vegas, before coming to Los Angeles. The decision to turn himself in may have been motivated by pressure from “close associates” in Los Angeles who had come under scrutiny from police and federal agents since Manjikian fled, authorities said.

“This is what we’ve all been waiting for,” said the family’s private investigator, John Nazarian. “We’re all very pleased that the error in judgment we watched in Puerto Rico has been corrected by police here in Los Angeles.”

C.J. Lin, Staff Writer of the Contra Costa Times reported; ” The suspected gunman in the fatal 2009 shooting of a Granada Hills man was arrested Thursday, just weeks after skipping bail in Puerto Rico and evading federal authorities. Zareh Manjikian, 23, was arrested at Van Nuys Superior Court, where he had gone to surrender in the shooting death of 19-year-old Mike Yepremyan in North Hollywood.

“I wanted to surrender and straighten things out,” Manjikian told KCBS-Channel 2, which he had called to alert to his surrender. “I want people to know that I am innocent and I’m coming clean once and for all.”

“While the suspect is now safely behind bars, however, I will not relent in demanding that we get to the bottom of his shocking release by the court in Puerto Rico,” said Councilman Paul Krekorian, who has called for a federal investigation into the judge’s actions.

Manjikian is being held without bail. John Nazarian, a private investigator hired by the victim’s family, called Manjikian’s surrender “bizarre.” “The only reason why he showed up, the only reason why he turned himself in,” he said, “was because there was no place for this guy to hide.”

John J. Nazarian has an article up on Desperate Exes.com that is well worth a read on his feelings about this as well as the interview that Manjikian gave to KCBS-Channel 2 as FBI agents was arresting him.
