It’s a truly tragic tale — a young Southern California man full of promise, a murder that remains unsolved, and a family forever torn apart. This is the story of the Death Text.

The mood was festive at Mike Yepremyan’s 19th birthday party last October. Family video obtained by KTLA News shows a jubilant Mike, dancing with his family and friends. But no one in the room that night could have possibly imagined that 20 days later Mike would be dead from a gunshot to the head.

To think: a boy sends a text message calling someone “a bitch,” and within hours he’s shot down in cold blood, says Beverly Hills private investigator John Nazarian.

Nazarian is working with the Yepremyan family on their son’s murder. Nazarian says Mike and his friends had no idea what they were getting into.

“This is a classic example of sheep going to a slaughter”, Nazarian says.

“I don’t have anything”, Mike’s father says. “It like a tree without roots, only leaves. Nothing, that’s it.”

…Ani, Mike’s mother, fights back tears in remembering her son. “My life is broken. Forever, forever.”

Well, if I was not there on Monday in the courtroom of Judge Karen J. Nudell, Van Nuys Superior court, I would not have believed my eyes. Khatun Vardanian was not held for murder the murder of Mike Yepremyan, the charge went back to “conspiracy to commit assault,” and her bail was once again set at $30,000. I am going to predict that when she goes back to court in a month, her sentence will be either credit for time served or picking up litter for Cal Trans.

….it is not the fault of the Deputy D.A. Andrew Bassas or the two police detectives. The Deputy D.A. did what could only be described as an incredible job presenting the facts. …And sitting in that courtroom it also became evident that the two detectives have a great deal of information on the people who killed Mike Yepremyan. It is going to take more time to eventually put the killers in jail. A kind of funny/sad moment was when the getaway driver’s father, Abraham Jurian, was called to the stand, and when asked by the deputy district attorney where his son, Vahagn Jurian was, replied, “I don’t know.“ When asked if he recalled his son calling and crying and being told by him that “a terrible thing had happened and someone was killed,” he said “No.” …This too is a very sad moment for several reasons, parents trying to fix and make better what cannot be fixed or made better, at the same time it was an attempt of another father trying to save his son. Vahagn Jurian fled the United States several days after the murder, buying a ticket with cash and heading for France.

Khatun Vardanian was dressed in a two-piece blue jail issued uniform and was visibly shaken. She had spent two weeks in the gray bar hotel and was now looking at her future. Her attorney Anthony Brooklier also was on top of his game, and he did as great a job as did the D.A. in fighting for his client. He was in complete control, and it would appear while he was here fighting for this client he was at the same time doing it on a couple of other courtrooms too….the guy is incredible. Looking at the guy he is very sly, almost fox-like in a very nice suit.

The three witnesses who testified today did more harm than they did good in testifying against Khatun. …The other two, it was so bad that if they had told me that the Titanic had hit an iceberg I am not sure I would have believed them…

…Well, tonight it will be celebratory for the Vardanians and the Jurians, their daughter and niece will be home. For the Yepremyans, the body of their son Gombert “Mike” Yepremyan is still in a lonely grave and will never be coming home. …

We hear there is a video out there somewhere that shows Mike Yepremyan in one of the family’s last happy times just days before his murder, perhaps we will all get to see that one day as well.

19 year old Gombert Yepremyan, a fine young man known to friends and family as “Mike,” was brutally murdered over a text message. Mike was a student at Pierce College and worked as an emergency vehicle dispatcher. A devoted son to his loving mother Ani and father Art Yepremyanrt , Mike attended LA Baptist High School where he met his lovely girlfriend, Danielle. He was a good kid who worked hard and kept out of trouble, but on Nov. 18, 2009, trouble found him on the corner of Laurel Canyon and Victory Blvds, at the Sears parking lot in North Hollywood. Earlier that evening, Mike had sent a text message to his girlfriend, Danielle, warning her to “Stay away from that bitch,” that bitch being Khatun “Kat” Vardanian, a girl Danielle had begun hanging out with occasionally. He just had a bad feeling about her…little did he know how prophetic that feeling would be. The text message came through while Danielle’s iphone was sitting in her car’s center console, where Kat saw it, went into a rage, and immediately set in motion the events that led to Mike’s death only hours later. She allegedly called relatives who got together an Armenian posse who went gunning for Mike. For a text message! Mike and his school buddies agreed to meet them to “talk it over.” But before they knew what happened, Mike had been shot in the neck, hitman-style, and the culprits disappeared in a black BMW. The getaway driver fled the country. The shooter has not been caught.

But as of Friday, March 26, the “Kat” is in the bag. Department 100 on the third floor of Van Nuys Criminal Court is Judge Thomas Rubinson’s court and the calendar was very full with an assortment of misfits. …

…The occasion was supposed to be the arraignment of Khatun “Kat” Vardanian, DOB: 4.30.1989, for “conspiracy to commit assault,” for which she had been out on a paltry $30,000 bail. Why is it in LA that some business tycoon gets a million bail for putting giant ads on buildings, but for causing someone’s murder you can walk for $30,000?

Well anyway, there was a nice little surprise waiting in court for Kat the Bitch. She was re-arrested for the murder of Gombert “Mike” Yepremyan, yes you read this correctly, murder. Khatun Vardanian arrived in Department 100 this morning with her father, Samuel and her uncle Abraham, they looked to be a happy bunch in a serious way. …Donald B. Marks, Khatun’s lawyer told the court, all she did was tell her brother, “Go beat em up“ (for calling her a BITCH)…..what????????? I was shocked to hear him say this! …

Khatun Vardanian is represented by Donald B. Marks and Anthony Brooklier, well for now, anyway. …The new bail is $1,000,000 and Mr. Brooklier’s fees should also increase considerably, defending a murderer. When Ms. Vardanian was lead away to the holding area, she whined, “Daddy!” …From another part of the courtroom someone uttered, “Justice.” Justice? Not yet for Mike’s devastated, grieving parents Art and Ani, his little sister Cristina, his girlfriend Danielle, and Mike’s many friends. …

….Khatun Vardanian’s arraignment on the new charge of MURDER is set for April 7.
