Zareh Manjikian and Vahagn Jurian guilty of murder and other charges.

Hovic Dzhuryan and his sister Khatun ‘Kat’ Vardanyan guilty of conspiracy to commit murder

Mike Yepremyan was murdered November 2009 and the trial began just a few weeks ago June 2012. Mike is the first highlighted teen text murder case in the U. S. involving the California Homicide Detectives, the U. S. Marshalls as the murderers fled the U. S. and the FBI for those hiding here.

On the Yepremyan murder case it was the lawyers, Michael Levin, Esq. Alex Kessel, Esq., Levin is representing Zareh Manjikian and Kessel is representing Vahag Jurian. Also present everyday is Hovic Dzhuryan and his sister Kat Vardanian, Anthony Brooklier is representing Kat and George Mgdesyan is representing Hovic.

Judge Gregory A. Dohi of the Los Angeles Superior Court is presiding, Dept. E. Judge Dohi has only been a judge since being appointed August 29, 2007. Prior to that he attended a mid level university back East, Harvard!! And then went to Boalt Hall School of Law, one thing we can say is that this guy has educational credentials in the highest categories of law.

Judge Dohi was admitted to the bar in 1991 and joined the District Attorney’s office as a prosecutor.

Artak and Arni Yepreyman was in the court for the reading of the verdicts. Let’s hope as each GUILTY!!! was read they found some peace in God’s hands, that our justice system although slow, can work! Special thanks to Lt. Hamilton and Detective Thomas Townsend, of North Hollywood Division of the L.A.P.D. Homicide and their team of team of homicide cops, The Los Angeles Grand Jury for indicting these four and Office Kirkpatrick and John J Nazarian Celebrity PI who just could not walk away from this case.

As Nazarian once said; “These people who were involved in the killing of Mike Yepremyan are looking at a whole lotta of time, and the district attorney’s office is going to be sure they get all that they got coming to them and more, time is wonderful unless you are in a state prison.”

In a L. A. Times article today by Robert Faturechi;

“the indictment also named another member of the group, Lazar Petrosyan, who authorities said is being treated as a witness, not a suspect.

We will be verifying this as soon as possible, but my bet is because of the flight risk, Kat and her brother will be spending their first night in jail the first of many.

R.I.P. Mike and may your family be comforted by knowing they stayed the course and may sure you were remember both of your organ donations, but also they never tired, they saw your killers brought to justice.

Teen Text Murder Victim Mike Yepremyan

As reported by John J Nazarian:

The Yepremyan murder trial is wrapping up after several weeks, it is the process that is also a real killer. Can you begin to imagine the Yepremyans sitting day in and day out within feet of those responsible for the murder of their only son. Having to sit and watch all of the evidence that at times was gruesome. There were photos of the autopsy, their boy laying there dead. And worse yet was the silly shit the defense attorneys would pull on witnesses, and the shenanigans (one would have to wonder what redeeming qualities lawyers like this have? What would it be like to have their son or daughter laying on a stainless steel table with a bullet hole in the head? Getting ready to be sliced and diced during an autopsy). Just me thinking our loud.

The defense attorneys have pulled out all the stops. Kessel was the most annoying in so much that he does his job and enjoys it. What job do you ask? Get the guilty out of the belly of the beast at all costs and this trial was no exception. Just like ‘OJ’ everyone knew Simpson killed his wife and the kid. And he was found not guilty by a gaggle of some of the dumbest human beings to ever walk the face of this planet…it all caught up with him in time (this was probably one of the rare examples of a “jury of your peers” ).

Likewise, everyone with any brains knows exactly what happened that night in North Hollywood, who killed Mike Yepremyan, who put it all into motion and all of the players. The truth has little or no place in a criminal court, it is defense games and police detectives and prosecutors who waltz around with the freedom of those in the jaws of the system. The jury system as I have often stated is a total joke for the most part, “a jury of your peers.” Really? So would I have 12 former cops on a jury, does a doctor get a jury of other doctors to decide ones innocence or guilt? Of course not, jury selection is a science for those who want to spend the money on professionals who can pick certain ‘candidates’ with certain characteristics that will be favorable for your client.

That was not the case in the Yepremyan murder case, Not Guilty or Guilty is not going to bring back Mike ‘Gombert’ Yepremyan from his grave in Forest Lawn. One big help for the defense was the fact all of Mikes ‘friends’ that night seemed to have forgotten and lied about a shotgun that was in the trunk of Mike’s car. For sure it was not put there by Mike, but by one of his friends who thought that his military career was going to be helpful in the event of something happening. In the end it may well have gave the defense a gift, sure a real big gift to the defendants. Sure, they all lied (Mike’s friends who all watched and did nothing) about an issue that if it had been told to the cops at the time would have been a non-issue. Having any long gun in your trunk is not an issue, tell the cops the truth and all would have been fine, but to lie? The whole bunch of you may have given rise to letting the killers off, we will see.

Worse yet was that this same group that were standing feet away when Mike was murdered also lied to the grand jury! WTF were you thinking guys, you never used the gun obviously, are you all that f’n ignorant? You soldier boy should have got it and used it at the fleeing murders who had just shot your best friend in the neck. But nooo, you and the others decided to try and lie and forget about a non-fucking issue. Congratulations, the whole bunch of you may very well be responsible for Mike Yepremyan and his Mom and Dad never seeing justice…all because you lied!

Now if the jury is smart and the prosecutor is as good an actor as some of the members of the defense team. This jury may well understand that they are sitting and looking at those responsible for the murder of Mike ‘Gombert’ Yepremyan. If these defendants are to be found not guilty, as I said when ‘OJ’ was found not guilty, the defendants took the risks, they played the game and payed dearly for a great defense team… this is after all our system of justice.

One other note, as many of you will recall in my earlier writings on Desperateexes.com I talk about the “Armenian Factor.” This “Factor” is as real as dead fish will stink, fruit will rot and for law enforcement the “Armenian Factor,” encompasses all of this and much more in investigating crimes involving this element.

Teen Text Murder Victim Mike Yepremyan

As reported by John J Nazarian:

Mike Yepremyan was murdered November 2009 and the trial began just a few weeks ago June 2012. The jury selection is always one of the more uninteresting aspects of the process, ‘Select a Jury’. Let me just say this for the defendants how the lawyers select a jury can be a crap shoot. On many real big high profile cases there are ‘specialists’ who help with the process. These experts will look at the shoes,’shined not shined’, the hair, all kind of mannerisms to try and pick the most favorable. Little like how I pick peaches at the market, all by hand!

Did either Brooklier or Mgdesyan assist in the jury selection? I am not sure, all of these guys are well trained and respected for their work as ‘Get me off the hook’ go to guys. The biggest name in the bunch is of course is Anthony Brooklier, one of the biggest names in defense in So. Cal. right up there with Harland Braun, Esq. Kessel and Levin are very good at their craft also, Mgdesyan, I have never heard of until this trial.

I met with Brooklier with one of the defendants in the Anna Nicole Smith trial and after a great lunch of Spaghetti and Meatballs my client ‘flew the coop’. I was done with her and Brooklier was not retained, I still see that as a big mistake…..welcome to my world of making suggestions.

(Judge Dohi handled the pre-lim of Robert Blake Feb. 26, 2003 after he supposedly ‘whacked’ his wife after a nice Italian dinner at Vittello’s in Studio City). I wonder if they had ‘Meatballs’?

When Judge Dohi is not siting on the bench he is a professor at Southwestern School of Law. His honor ran for his ‘bench seat’ in 2010 and won the election, no one else it appears ran against him, this is often the case for sitting judges. Judge Dohi also sent Jodie Foster’s father, Blake Foster, to prison for 5 years for scamming home owners. Not bad, Judge Gregory A. Dohi, welcome to being a jurist in Southern California.

The only issue that I have is that with this education, with this employment background he has to know the law backwards and forwards. On paper this guy does not look like he would be easy to sell a bridge to…..we will see.

Some feathers are being ruffled as to having Mike Yepremyan’s parents, Artak and Arni sit outside the courtroom while certain witnesses testify. Former friends of Mike’s that both of the parents had spoken to after the murder of their son. Is this any kind of violation of ‘victims rights’? I am not sure. What I am hearing and understanding, is a Judge not wanting to make any mistakes that in the event of a conviction, so will start the appeal process. If there are convictions and there is any money left certainly there will be an appeal, that is fairly common in cases like this.

Remember, I promised to do all I could to make this story known around the world. I got it in the Los Angeles Times, Column One front page above the crease, we discussed it throughout the internet, all of the local news channels and the icing on the cake for me is Luce Villareal, taping for what will be a segment on DATELINE. If you will, prior to my participation in this case this was a ‘two line story’ on the L.A. Times webpage……not anymore!

I am not positive as I have not been served yet with a subpoena, maybe when I return from vacation in a few weeks as to my having to testify? We will see! My reason and thoughts on this was last week’s question by Mr. Kessel to Danielle, Mike’s former girlfriend, ‘Do you know a Mr. Nazarian? ‘ or something along those lines. I am very sure, everyone knows Mr. Nazarian, just Google me! Hell, I Google myself sometimes when I am bored to see what Mr. Nazarian is doing.

Mike's parents Ani and Art Yepremyan

L. A. times Reporter Robert Faturechi stated in an article that; “A suspect in a fatal Los Angeles shooting who was captured in Puerto Rico only to flee again after being released on bail was arrested in Van Nuys on Thursday afternoon, law enforcement sources said. Zareh Manjikian is suspected of fatally shooting a 19-year-old just hours after the teen sent an insulting text message in a bizarre slaying that drew wide-scale media attention.

More than a year after the slaying, Manjikian was tracked down to a beach town outside Puerto Rico’s capital city, San Juan, where federal authorities arrested him.”

Authorities had asked Judge Gloria Maynard in Puerto Rico to hold Manjikian without bail during extradition proceedings, but she set bail at $50,000. Zareh Manjikian promptly paid the bond and fled Puerto Rico that “shocked police in Los Angeles, who have been investigating the case for more than 18 months”, and Mike Ypremyan’s parents, Ani and Art Yepremyan who could not believe that a judge had allowed Manjikian to be released on a no bond request by U. S. Marshals.

On Thursday afternoon, Manjikian was arrested by a federal fugitive task force at the courthouse in Van Nuys. The murder suspect was attempting to turn himself in, but was arrested before he could, said LAPD Det. Thomas Townsend. When Manjikian was first captured by U.S. marshals in Puerto Rico, his brother was arrested with him on unrelated charges. Authorities said that it appears Manjikian, after being released on bail, may have assumed his brother’s identity to fly from the island territory to Philadelphia, and then to Las Vegas, before coming to Los Angeles. The decision to turn himself in may have been motivated by pressure from “close associates” in Los Angeles who had come under scrutiny from police and federal agents since Manjikian fled, authorities said.

“This is what we’ve all been waiting for,” said the family’s private investigator, John Nazarian. “We’re all very pleased that the error in judgment we watched in Puerto Rico has been corrected by police here in Los Angeles.”

C.J. Lin, Staff Writer of the Contra Costa Times reported; ” The suspected gunman in the fatal 2009 shooting of a Granada Hills man was arrested Thursday, just weeks after skipping bail in Puerto Rico and evading federal authorities. Zareh Manjikian, 23, was arrested at Van Nuys Superior Court, where he had gone to surrender in the shooting death of 19-year-old Mike Yepremyan in North Hollywood.

“I wanted to surrender and straighten things out,” Manjikian told KCBS-Channel 2, which he had called to alert to his surrender. “I want people to know that I am innocent and I’m coming clean once and for all.”

“While the suspect is now safely behind bars, however, I will not relent in demanding that we get to the bottom of his shocking release by the court in Puerto Rico,” said Councilman Paul Krekorian, who has called for a federal investigation into the judge’s actions.

Manjikian is being held without bail. John Nazarian, a private investigator hired by the victim’s family, called Manjikian’s surrender “bizarre.” “The only reason why he showed up, the only reason why he turned himself in,” he said, “was because there was no place for this guy to hide.”

John J. Nazarian has an article up on Desperate Exes.com that is well worth a read on his feelings about this as well as the interview that Manjikian gave to KCBS-Channel 2 as FBI agents was arresting him.

Mike Yepremyan Tomb Stone

C.J. Lin of the Los Angeles Daily News is reporting that Rep. “Buck” McKeon wants answers in release of suspect in killing at North Hollywood Sears’ lot as outrage after man sought in 2009 shooting skips bail in Puerto Rico continues to grow in California over the teen text murder.

Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon, R-Santa Clarita on Tuesday, July 6 2011, in a letter to U. S. Attorney General Eric Holder asked him to investigate the release of the suspected killer of a Granada Hills teen by a Puerto Rican judge despite authorities’ requests to keep him in custody. Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon has asked for information on the release of Zaren Manjikian, who is wanted on suspicion of killing 19-year-old Mike Yepremyan in a Sears parking lot in North Hollywood in November 2009.

Zaren Manjikian allegedly shot Yepremyan in the back of the head over a text message in which he called someone a “bitch,” police said. As we all know since Rose Speaks and the L. A. Times have continued the coverage and after an 18-month investigation, U.S. Marshals tracked Manjikian to an apartment in Puerto Rico and arrested him in May. Authorities asked Puerto Rican Judge Gloria Maynard to hold Manjikian, 23, without bail during extradition proceedings. But Maynard set a bail of $50,000. Manjikian posted 10 percent of it, was released from custody, and promptly disappeared again.

“The action of this judge in Puerto Rico was an affront to law enforcement, effectively nullifying nearly two years of work LAPD detectives put in to capture the killer of Mike Yepremyan,” wrote L. A Councilman Paul Krekorian asked those questions in a letter that Representative McKeon forwarded to U. S. Attorney General Holder. “To ignore a no-bail arrest warrant and extradition request, and to release a murder suspect who is a proven flight risk on absurdly low bail of $50,000, is an abrogation of justice and puts the public at great and unnecessary risk,” Krekorian wrote. “There can be no rational explanation for this bizarre decision by Judge Maynard that would be consistent with the faithful performance of her duties as a judge.”

L. A Councilman Krekorian has also asked U.S. Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer to pressure Puerto Rican officials to catch Manjikian. A motion that Krekorian authored that calls for a federal investigation will likely be heard by the council this week or next.

“There certainly should be a federal probe,” said John Nazarian, the Yepremyans’ private investigator and spokesman. “For the family, it was another devastating blow. “To have Judge Maynard to make such a casual, off-the-cuff decision, is almost criminal. It is a total outrage and a slap in the face of every legitimate judge.”

A second suspect in the case, Vahagn Jurian, has also been charged with murder. Jurian, 23, was arrested during a traffic stop last month, police said. He was ordered to be handed over for trial by California Judge Nudell this week for the teen text murder case. Jurian is suspected of driving the getaway car after Manjikian allegedly shot Yepremyan.

In a text message sent to Mike Yepremyan’s girlfriend, Yepremyan called his girlfriend’s friend, Kat Vardanian, a bitch, said Detective Richard Wheeler of LAPD North Hollywood Division. Vardanian was with the girlfriend at the time and saw the text message. She memorized his number and began calling family and friends, Wheeler said. Mike Yepremyan began receiving calls from strangers to meet at the Sears parking lot. Manjikian and Jurian met him there, Wheeler said.

Art Yepremyan, Mike’s father, said he was glad to hear of the possibility of a federal investigation. He was still trying to comprehend how Manjikian could have been released. “Justice is going to be taken,” Art Yepremyan said. “This was our only son. And he was killed for what?”

John J. Nazarian remains in contact with Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon’s staff at the representative’s Washington D. C. office to monitor the progress of the request for an investigation, in an exclusive comment to Rose Speaks.com Mr. Nazarian remains hopeful that those responsible for the murder of Mike will be brought to justice. John J. Nazarian predicts that more arrests will come.

I am wondering now that Vahagn Jurian has been ordered to stand trial on the murder if this might not be a great chance for him to make a deal with the state and not go down alone for this horrible teen text murder.

Desperate Exes.com also has an article up about Vahagn Jurian being held over for trial on the murder charges well worth a read:

LA Deputy DA Edward Nison and Alex Kessel

Well here we are going into day three of the prelim and it is nothing short of a war. Day three will be June 30, 2011. The last two have been a battle of two great legal minds, Alex Kessel for the defense and LA Deputy DA Edward Nison for the prosecution. Mr. Kessel has to be in Federal Court on Monday and he and his client, Vahagn Jurian agreed to the June 30 date. For the defense you have one of the best defense attorneys money will buy, Alex Kessel. Funny this is “great” lawyer number two, the first was none other than Anthony Brooklier. How are these retainers being paid, you have to wonder? First we had Khatun ‘Kat’ Vardanian arrested for murder and Brooklier was brought into the case, and now her “cuz” is charged with murder and we have Mr. Kessel. Thousands of dollars are being spent and it is a sunny day for defense lawyers, you have to love these Armenians!

Vahagn Jurian aka “the little guy” aka “shorty” was reported as the driver who assisted in getting the gunmen out of the area after they killed Mike Yepremyan. Yes, I know he did not pull the trigger and it is being presented that he did not know what was going to happen. Now, here is the rub if you will, I go someplace to “talk“ and out of nowhere one of my friends pulls a gun and murders someone!!!! I agree, Holly Shit! Most people would either stay to talk to the police or even render help. Or, here is a good one, go to the nearest police station and tell the cops what had just happened. Not “the short guy,” no siree. Napoleon does what every innocent person does, he flees the scene and then the country, all behavior of an “innocent bystander”…please, who is selling this? Let’s hope that Judge Nudell is not buying it.

Well, (I am channeling Jack Benny here) Judge Karen J. Nudell’s Van Nuys courtroom was given even more testimony as to the issue of “Hand Jobs.” Part of what Mike Yepremyan did not want to say when he initially met with Vahagn and Zareh just before they killed him was he was not happy that his girlfriend was with “The Bitch.” The other issue was that Khatun “Kat” Vardanian was going to some adult store to buy “LUBE”, to use on one of her boyfriend’s wanker!!! It appears she likes to jerk some guy off and likes to make sure all goes smoothly. Folks, I don’t make this stuff up, it was discussed in an open courtroom in Division 112, Van Nuys, California. We have the driver, “Little Shorty” or “The Short One,” “Small One,” Vahagn Jurian going to the aid and honor of his cousin, Khatun ‘Kat’ Vardanian who is shopping for “LUBE” so as to give a nice and smooth “Hand Job“ to her very lucky boyfriend(s).

So, am I to understand clearly that all of this, Mike Yepremyan’s murder, was for one, texting to his girlfriend that Ms. Vardanian was a “bitch“ and now also keep in mind this was a private text message to his girlfriend Danielle. And the back story was also involving “lube“ and “handjobs”? Back in court on June 30th, all we will need is “raincoats” and “umbrellas,” at this pace.

Ani and Art Yepremyan

I found this article yesterday and of course was touched deeply again about this senseless tragedy.
Mike Yepremyan’s, former Pierce College student, murder is still at large a year later

Photographs line the walls of the Granada Hills home, of a young man with warm brown eyes and dark hair. It’s a warm Saturday afternoon. Beams of sunlight catch on the glass frames.

His bedroom is on the first floor, off the living room. It’s open and airy, with hardwood floors and a window that looks over the backyard. The bed is freshly made, clothes and other belongings tucked neatly away in the wall length closet.

The room is bright, warm, and lived in. But its former occupant, Mike Yepremyan, 19, has been dead for almost a year.

“He was a good man. Very calm, very nice boy, his first goal was to become an astronaut,” said Ani Atajyan, Yepremyan’s mother, seated on a sofa beside a photograph of her son. “He was very interested in the stars. He was always searching, searching, searching to know more, more, more. And he never gave me half his time,” she said, wringing her long, thin fingers.

His sister Christine, 6, nods, sat beside her mother clutching a Smurf plushy.

Gombert Yepremyan, known as Mike to friends and family, was killed Nov. 18 over a text message he had sent to his girlfriend Denielle Wegrzyn. He sent the text to Wegrzyn early in the evening to complain about her companion, now 21-year-old Kat Vardanian, who Yepremyan had disapproved of:

“Every time u hang out with that bitch u guys get hookah. Is there something cool bout her n hookah that u enjoy so much?” he text-ed Wegrzyn, according to the Los Angeles Times coverage of the hearing.

That text set off a chain of phone calls and text messages between Vardanian, her brother and cousin, and an unknown man, all culminating in a late-night confrontation in a Sears parking lot in North Hollywood that left Yepremyan dead, from a bullet to the brain.

The shooter, an unidentified man, and Vardanian’s cousin, 22-year old Vahagn Jurian, fled from the scene in a black BMW with no license plates later found abandoned by police.

So far, no one involved in the shooting has been convicted for Mike’s death. Vardanian, who was arrested and charged for murder nearly five months after the shooting, was dropped on murder charges during a preliminary hearing in April.

Anthony Brooklier, Vardanian’s attorney, would not return calls from a reporter. Her next hearing, on a lesser charge of conspiracy, will be in November, marking the first year anniversary of Mike’s death.

“I want her to go to jail. What else? She killed my son,” said Atajyan.

Meanwhile, Mike’s father, Art Yepremyan, has continued his own investigation into Mike’s murder with the help of a Beverly Hills private investigator, John J. Nazarian, who has been working pro bono for the Yepremyan family since last December.

“I feel like I’ve known this family for twenty years,” said Nazarian, sitting with the family in their backyard. “The only thing that Mr. and Mrs. Yepremyan did wrong was believe in the system,” he said.

…Nazarian, a third-generation Armenian, believes that the shooter and Jurian returned to the United States after fleeing the country in the days after the shooting, and are now being hidden by ‘certain elements’ of the Armenian community in California.

“Everybody in the Armenian community view these guys, Mike’s killers, as gods,” he said. “The people who did this, they’re real animals. Barbarians.”

Beside him, Art nods, eyes cast down towards his shoes.

“I don’t believe they’re gonna help,” Art, a native Armenian, said of the local communities. “They’re not gonna help, and I won’t ask them for help,” he said.

….Occasionally, he accompanies Nazarian on his investigations, serving both as translator and mediator for Nazarian, who speaks no Armenian.

The lack of closure for the Yepremyan family has left them frozen in grief. In the months after his son’s death, Art’s hair has become greyer, and he’s lost weight….
