John J. Nazarian and Charlee his partner on the job

Well, one shoe fell this morning in Federal Court in Los Angeles: Terry Christensen was sentenced. No surprises here folks, Judge Dale Fischer aka Judge Sledge (as in hammer) started slow and built to a smack down that was no surprise, 3 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. So much for paying those idiots who suggested to the court 10 months house arrest and $30,000 fine! I also noticed it got hotter as she spoke, as if the bowels of hell were opening (and this is just a warm up for the Pelican and his crew. not looking too good Paisano!). This morning’s proceedings had all the feelings of a funeral, those of us in attendance got to witness a man’s career being thrown into a pit and dirt being shoveled in on top, and the final shovel would be the sentence given by Judge Fischer. I was not happy as I have been playing the P.I. Game in this town for many years and I as well as many others know the truth….I have said this before, if J. Edgar Hoover had been alive Mr. Christensen would have had a lot of company sitting with him…and the others had been doing what Mr. Christensen has been charged with (2 counts) for years! YEARS, not several weeks, like he did! And I know that it made no difference, steal a roll of dimes from a bank or a bag full of Benjamins it is all a crime, I do get it. Do you get me and my point? Alright, Ok, I have heard the tapes and yes there is obviously material there to come to the conclusion that the jury and many others have come to. However, I do know all the players in High Stakes divorce cases in this town and even Higher Stakes civil litigation. And there are several lawyers in this “play pen” that must have just been taking massive doses of Imodium AD people. Oh sure, much of what Anthony Pellicano recorded is gone or cannot be opened by our government in Quantico, Va. Can you imagine if the Feds had got it right the first time?

Mr. Christensen was there with his wife and his son Christopher, and many more supporters than detractors. The defense knew exactly what was coming and went through the motions. I have heard all the thoughts as to the defense I was there and I don’t think a better defense could have been made. Those GD tapes, that was the burn, and again for what? At the end of the day what did Pellicano make better? Save a few million for a rich old guy? For someone who was and still is worth billions? Saunders and Lally and several of the agents involved were also there. Saunders too was on top of his game, this for the prosecutors is a glorious day and that is what we, as tax payer, pay them as prosecutors to do, prosecute, and that is what these two Federal Prosecutors did, they have no reason to feel guilty. Lally, Suanders, all of the agents did a great job, I just wish that they would have dug a little deeper…what they got was a minnow, all the real big ‘uns got away.

One of the highlights of the morning was when Judge Fischer asked if any of the “victims” wanted to speak. Well, just as there is morning and night to follow here comes none other than Stephen Kolodny. There are some things Kolodny is not going to miss, breakfast, lunch, dinner and the opportunity to make his presence known…

…Also present was Mr. Kerkorian’s security person, a nice guy and he always dresses very well, no surprise there, right. The shaved head, nice suit, nice glasses and a “look.” He and I could have been separated at birth! (Kerkorian and all that is related to his name was a big part of this case). Well, when Stephen got up to address the court, the look that Kerkorian’s guy gave Stephen was right out of the book of “if looks could kill,” or was it more of a look of “enough already”…I am thinking more like a scowl! That moment was worth being there for. And as I was outside taking notes, I thought I heard Mr. Kolodny make a comment to a group that “Nazarian was taking notes,”…

John J. Nazarian and Charlee his partner on the job

Here is an exclusive for Rose Speaks.com, on November 12 at 10:00 A.M. at
The Roybal Federal Court House in Los Angeles; these are my predictions for the ‘end’ of the Pellicano saga. 16 to 20 years for the ‘Big Bird’.

I am not so sure for all of the ‘Co-Ds’, Former Sgt. Mark Arneson, the DISGRACED former Los Angeles Police Sgt…..20+. My reason for this prediction is that he never apologized, he never showed any remorse and he did it all in front of Federal Judge Dale Fischer! Judge Fischer has to put ‘Sarge’ under the prison plane and simple. This will be as an example to all law enforcement throughout the United States that behavior such as Mark Arneson’s has high rewards but don’t get caught. For it is behavior such as this that will take your freedom away and leave you and your family destroyed. Funny, actually, when you think of it, for it was Mark Arneson who gave Anthony Pellicano the ability to destroy other people’s lives and now he will pay for it with his freedom. Oh sure he has a pension and that is a substantial monthly payment, as when the feds were getting ready to arrest Mark, he retired. (Will this be attached for his victims through judgments?)

Then we have ‘Little Abner’, he is already a convicted felon and he too showed no respect to the court during the trial. He took naps and would arrive late, it was almost comical. I would also bet that the millions he and his brother took are very safe and he will one day get a chance to spend much of that money. ‘Happy Ray’ and ‘The Computer Geek’ I have no idea….again will Judge Fischer make examples of these two for the rest of the world to see…..we will see.

Meanwhile all of the ‘victims’ of ‘The Pelican & Crew’ are all posturing to get paid. And why not! This is the American way, right? All I have to say is that the real winners will be the lawyers; one in particular, if all goes well will get BIG chunks of cash off the backs of some of these victims. Many of those who paid Anthony to do the ‘deeds’ will settle quickly others will enjoy the contest of not giving in, after all was it not this very arrogance that got them into this to begin with? For the very rich, it is the arrogance that keeps their miserable little hearts pounding. Why you ask? Well, when you are so rich and miserable paying for lawyers to handle problems is as bothersome as brushing your teeth.

What is still up in the air is why? Why did Anthony just sit and not once did he ever cooperate with the government. This had to have driven the prosecution crazy! Anthony went about interviewing his victims as they sat on the stand and without question enjoyed every minute of it! Will his family be taken care of? And by who? Any financial gain will be swept away in all of the pending judgments against him. In addition, will Kat, his wife show up for the final ‘good bye’……………we will all know soon enough!

John J. Nazarian, P.I. Extraordinaire

Anita Busch, one of the shortest letters and this is the woman that brought the Pelican crashing down to earth! I was with Ms. Busch in the early days of this terrible crime drama…I saw first hand what it did to her, no we are not best friends but I do recall offering to sleep in her doorway to help her feel safe. I also remember the battle she was facing in trying to save her cat and think what you will about Anita, she is a very kind soul….she wanted none of this. And when many of these idiots look back on what they did, was it worth it? I don’t think so. All I can say is that the only revenge will be a financial one and this is one victim that all the others should mention in their prayers. And she was right on many issues that we discussed in the early days of this (like the cops’ involvement…I was wrong, again!)

Monika Zsibrita and Chris Rock…there is some funny stuff here and I guess that she, too, was a victim, and all I can say here is sometimes the player gets played. I was never a Chris Rock fan and I will never be one, he too deserves whatever this ends up costing him…..again, there were other alternatives to what he did.

John Nazarian, the Pellicano Effect

Well, the train is coming around the bend and judgment day is fast approaching…and the letters of “suggestions” for the wish list of the victims of the Pelican and others! Andyes, for sure there are those who wish that Terry Christensen, too, will be crucified along with the big feathered one and his cronies…aka the “The R.I.C.O. Boys.”

We are posting the letters that were written, very nice letters, well-written for the most part, and all very politely “hang the bastards” in tone. Click on the names for pdf’s of each letter.

Jane Doe #8 one that I felt terrible, really terrible during the trial to think that after what happened to her, there was a police sgt. helping her attacker get away with the crime…..she touches on the fact that this went on for so long with the knowledge of many, “nothing short of terrorism”. And she mentions Danny Davis and Ron Richards as the lawyers for John G. Jones…”antics” is used and it is a good word, this girl was a victim…and the DA could not even help her!

You can read the rest of Mr. Nazarian’s article and download the victim statements from his site. I have to say I think this is one of the most touching articles I have read, it allows all to look into what the victims felt about the police sergeant helping Pellicano which really left many victims with no where to go. Mr. Nazarian even apologizes to one he had contact with for not believing the person or how bad all of this was for these people.

John J. Nazarian, P.I. Extraordinaire

Over the last year or so I was interviewed by Marty Lasden, the editor of California Lawyer Magazine, who did a huge story on Pellicano and an even larger photo lay out of me (the best part of Marty’s story!). And through the months I have spoken to numerous news agencies and given them my insights about P.I.s and the Pelican. And I told all of them of my encounters with Anthony Pellicano and his reign of bullshit. I even told a few that I had received a letter advising me, as only Anthony could do, that I was to do this and that and this…LMAO. I was told that at one time he told a very famous boxer that I was an extortionist and this kid believed him for awhile…now this is real funny looking back, comparing what Pellicano did and what I do (thank god this same boxer surrounds himself with great investment people for good advice, and not the big Goombah). Oh sure, I have had my issues with people and places, and you know what? It comes with the territory…like my daddy always told me, when you run across a cow field you are going to step in shit….and he was right! I have even been accused of using a police Captain’s business card on my dash for parking at the court house…hogwash, at the time the guy was a Lt.

John J. Nazarian P. I. Legend

Today’s article by Victoria Kim of the Los Angeles Times touches on some interesting thoughts. What Anthony Pellicano did was nothing short of a time bomb waiting to go off: recording people without their knowledge and keeping those recordings for some “future” use. I am still not sure why, I hope that someday Anthony will see his way to telling me…I would love to sit and talk to him. What happened to all the money. and why tape everybody?

…I and many of those close to me believe that old-fashion gumshoe techniques still work best. Having reliable contacts and being able to use those contacts effectively are as good today as they were back in Hal Lipset’s day! Hal was one of my mentors in the beginning of my becoming a P.I. (Mr. Lipset was Richard Nixon’s P.I., back when it was fun).

Cell phones, text messages, and e-mails have become a big enough problem trying to keep things “quiet,” never mind recording your friends and people who trust you. If someone is leaving threatening messages and your safety or that of a loved one is at risk, that is a totally different matter, do what you have to.

I tell all the lawyers who work with us that they should never speak to any so-called private investigator on any phone for more that 1 minute or more about any “assignment.” Have them come to your office, NOT theirs, and discuss whatever it is that needs to be discussed, and bill the client for that meeting and even for parking for all of you big shots who don’t validate. To just put your mouth in gear chit chat about any case is a HUGE mistake and Mr. Pellicano proves my point. He is not the only one that likes to tape your calls, please trust me on this. You have a nice office and that is where you need to discuss issues. Also for those of you who attended my lectures on Attorneys and P.I.s, remember those darn files — that too is something that you need to be aware of and take control of. Our policy at Nazarian and Associates: we don’t keep records, never have and never will, never mind recordings.

John J. Nazarian, P.I. Extraordinaire

The defense has rested and a better job you could not have paid for. We all understand the accusations and they are serious. Bad things did happen to good people. However, everyone in this country is entitled and guaranteed a defense, even lawyers! My dear friend, Neville L. Johnson, Esquire who is representing several victims of this mishigas was present and we spoke. Neville did not agree with me as to my thoughts on Mr. Christensen being found not guilty. I feel that the defense presented a stellar case of “reasonable doubt.” Neville felt that the jury was laughing at the defense. Hmm, the jury laughed all right, and it is true there were some light-hearted moments, but I am past my previous thoughts on this and I think I can even pick the beer drinkers from the group…we will see. This is our system of justice, you get charged and you get to defend yourself, and in several days we will all see if this old gumshoe got it right. Not Guilty, that is my story and I am sticking to it!

…Will there be another Anthony Pellicano? I have been asked dozens of times. Not in the near future, but technology is out there and the needs of the rich and powerful will be filled. Perhaps next time the people in charge will take the complaints of the victims a little more seriously. …

…After Glaser, Saunders, and Lally, when Anthony got up the mood changed so quick I almost wanted to take a nap with Shapiro…I had to leave. Hey, I might be on to something — The Shapiro and The Nazarian dozing, heads meeting at their points…The Shapiro in dreamland, checking his bank accounts and me hoping that some of his money would slip into one of my accounts…I am dreaming!

Seeing Mr. Kerkorian and getting to shake his hand was an experience I will never forget. As someone of Armenian descent, I saw my own father in him — genuine, self made and loyal. His statement was deafening in his description of Terry Christensen, “a true friend”…you could have heard a pin drop in that courtroom… what a beautiful statement, “a true friend “…you know what, I believe him.
