L Lin Wood

The online version of the Albany interview with Lin Wood during a golf tournament for the 23rd Lopez Hospice is a must read in my opinion. Carlton Fletcher, who can be reached at the email address of carlton.fletcher@albanyherald.com, has written an excellent article.

It outlines many of his clients, including, John and Patsy Ramsey, Howard K. Stern, Richard Jewell, the mothers of Natalee Holloway and Laci Peterson, Gary Condit and others.

He touches briefly on several of them from the rich and famous to the every day “meat cutter”, Lin “Wood is about as down-to-earth and straight-forward as a guy with his pedigree is bound to be”, as stated on the online paper.

The online paper describes Lin Wood including notes of other accolades to Lin Wood such as; “No less a luminary than Dan Rather called the Atlanta-based lawyer “the attorney for the damned.” Editor & Publisher magazine labeled him “one of the most dangerous media-plaintiff lawyers in the United States.”

“For every television interview I’ve done, I’ve turned down 100,” Wood said. “I have no desire to be this big celebrity or media lawyer, this ‘attorney of the damned.’ Certainly, that kind of stuff is flattering, and I appreciate the recognition. But at the end of the day I’m just Lin Wood, a person who cares about his clients.”

“Born in Raleigh, N.C., some 56 years ago, Wood was raised in Macon, moving to central Georgia with his family when he was 3. He earned his law degree at Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law and practiced in the city before accepting a position, [now a partner], with the powerful Powell Goldstein LLP firm of Atlanta.

And Wood’s reputation certainly precedes him. He’s become the go-to guy in cases that tend to feed the media frenzy. Some of his most noted:

— Richard Jewell, a guard who was initially accused of the Olympic Park bombing in Atlanta: “Richard was a legitimate hero. He helped evacuate hundreds of people who could have been harmed by the bomb in Olympic Park and, unbeknownst to most people, when he saw the initial reaction of the agent who first saw the bomb, he risked his life by going through a five-story tower to make sure all the people there were evacuated. Richard should be remembered as a hero, but sadly, until his death he was remembered more as the person first accused of the bombing. He showed remarkable dignity and grace in the face of all that, and he was a dear friend to me.” That was quoted from Mr. Wood during the interview. I also remember reading that at the funeral of Mr. Jewell Mr. Wood eulogy of Jewell included that on each anniversary of the bombing Mr. Jewell returned to the park late at night to place a single rose at the site of the death of one of the victims, never forgetting the woman he had not saved.

— Howard K. Stern, who was questioned in the death of Anna Nicole Smith: “Like many of my clients, the public has a gross misperception about Howard K. Stern. Of course, it didn’t help that they confused him with the shock jock, but he was not at all like he was portrayed in the media. He’s a down-to-earth good guy, a smart lawyer. He loved unconditionally Anna Nicole Smith and did nothing to deserve the treatment he got.”

— John and Patsy Ramsey, the parents initially accused in the death of their daughter, JonBenet Ramsey: In the article Mr. Wood states, “…One thing I’m glad of is that the Boulder (Colo.) DA exonerated the Ramsey family in the crime. And I know Patsy went to her grave with that truth in her heart.”

— Beth Holloway, — Sharon Rocha, mother of the murdered Laci Peterson: — Gary Condit, the U.S. congressman who was named as a suspect in the disappearance and murder of Chandra Levy in Washington, D.C and others, as outlined in the article. “The names in those cases were the subjects of hundreds of headlines and television news stories, and as is the case in such high-profile incidents, many people tend to believe the media-fueled accusations levied against the principles. Wood, however, said he believes in his clients.

I decided a long time ago that there were only so many hours in a day and so many years to get involved in these cases,” he said. “I will only represent people I believe in. It doesn’t make me a better person or lawyer — I admire those attorneys who will take on cases of people who confess or who they think are guilty, that’s necessary for our system to work — but that’s just my own personal belief.

If I believe in my clients, it inspires me to use my God-given talents to best serve them.

And while Wood is often characterized as a “celebrity attorney,” he says the cases of “everyday people” mean as much to him as those of the rich and famous.

I was proud to help a 31-year-old stroke victim get some badly needed financial help, and I defended a man who, as I told the jury, might be ‘just a meat cutter’ to some, but he had also become my friend. That man told me while the jury was deliberating that it didn’t matter if he won his case or not, what I’d said meant as much to him as the outcome.”

What touched me the most in the article was that Mr. Wood seems to understand the complexity of domestic violence, sharing something in the interview I had never read about Mr. Wood. In the interview Lin “Wood says he can’t remember a time when he did not want to be a trial lawyer, and that contention was solidified by a tragedy in his own family. After returning home from a date as a 16-year-old high schooler, he discovered that his father had beaten his mother to death.

Even though my father had committed this hideous crime, he was still my father, and I remember how two spectacular lawyers — Manley Brown and Hank O’Neal (both of Macon) — had done everything they could to help my father,” Wood said. “They did it out of a desire, I think, to help me, but that lesson stayed with me…”

To read the complete interview with Mr. Wood visit the online version of the Albany Herald.

http://www.albanyherald.com/stories/20080914n1.htm.

As a survivor of domestic violence what a thing to read for me and millions of others that understand the complexity of being a survivor as well as to why the victims remain in those situations at times for years. I have never talked to Mr. Wood and have to say I hope I don’t ever have to meet him”. I have never talked to Howard K. Stern and hope I “don’t have to ever meet him”, why you might ask, because somehow I have become embroiled in a legal case with both men. I wish them both well and maybe years from now …. Well who knows…

Rose, this is an article who should go aroud USA.This lawyer is a libra and represent himself like one of the best lawyer in USA. Thanks for the article.

  2. Personally I would be extremely honored to meet both men. So perhaps it should be- I hope I dont HAVE to meet them.
Cause then I think we all know what that means.

I hope all is well with you Rose and Lyndal

I liked this article and I believe that after everything is finally all said and done with Mr. Wood’s great help
both Howard and Anna will have their names back.

  3. Very informative article, Rose. Thank you very much.

    Well said Savesomething!

I agree TZ! It is a very good article! I do not think that anyone (even after being proved innocent) can truly ever get their good name back though.

I believe that Mr. Wood only did the interview on Howard K. Stern’s case with Larry King. So many months have gone by I honestly do not remember any others. Even so, I know I did not see him night after night on the likes of Nancy Grace, or On the Record with Greta, ect… This also says so very much about the character of this man to me.

It has always bothered me how these shows have helped to sway some people (who possibly just want a ‘bad guy’ to blame) as maybe these people are not very secure in their own lives or must have other problems. That is the only reason that seems to make sense to me. I say that because, the ‘haters’ of the Howard K. Stern case have first hated him and then turned on Dannielynn’s biological dad Larry. It is like they have listened to the lies these shows have allowed to be aired to the nation and just went nuts with trying to hang these innocent men on these statements that are slowly starting to be proven wrong.

This Jackie Hatten started most of the terrible lies! A person that was very angry her brother was in jail for years for trying to harm Anna herself and Anna’s neighbor. I would bet this Jackie person was very angry that she was pushed out of Anna’s life after that incident.
‘REVENGE’ by this woman was a big part of starting this false public perception of Anna’s loved ones. (I say Anna’s loved ones including Larry too, as she did love him at one time and allowed him to impregnate her twice)
If she was not allowed to go on show after show… (including Larry King Live) and state her lies then I do not believe the others would have followed as strong as they did. Others like; Anna’s bio mom, or that lawyer of hers. Lets not forget that lawyers so called investigator Don Clark… the list goes on and on!
Absolutely ridiculous! Then to find out that this Jackie Hatten stated she actually saw Howard and Larry together in a compromising position when; SHE NEVER EVEN HAD MET LARRY OR HAD BEEN IN THAT NEW HOUSE! This I believe is how the imaginary tape started taking a ‘life of its own on’. A made-up purposeful lie by a person that was out for revenge of her brother in jail! When in all actuality it was Anna’s neighbor who called the police on Mark Hatten and I believe and it was a jury that convicted him of trying to harm others! It does not matter; I am glad that she was named in a suit, as I believe she is guilty of so many lies that were purposely intended to harm. I am sure she has no money, but out and out intent to harm should be punished by jail time in my opinion.
*I only wish I actually knew the true sequence of events! Did she start off spewing the lie about seeing Howard and Larry to Virgie? Then did Virgie tell her lawyer Tom Pirtle (sp) which in turn was relayed to O’Quinn? Or did the O’Quinn law firm actually find out about this from (FBI) Don Clark?
SINCE it was in a remote way connected to the MARSHALL money…
A.) Is this the reason a man and his law firm spent over one million dollars to try to bring an innocent man (Howard) down so their client could be in control of any potential monies? (Which actually might have meant the law firm would control…)
B.) Is this the reason a man and his law firm spent money also with private investigators following Larry around after he was allowed to leave the Bahamas with his daughter? (Do not forget the appealing of that decision in the Bahamas by Anna’s ESTRANGED MOM!)

I believe Anna knew what she was doing by trying to make that will of hers ‘iron clad’ not to be broken many years ago! When Anna first started to make money with Guess jeans then with the Playboy cover, ect… She is on record of giving, giving, and giving to her family. It seems by things Anna has said over the years, that it was never enough for them! It was Anna that chose to have her family OUT-OF-HER-LIFE! Then after she is gone I believe this Jackie Hatten got together with Anna’s bio mom (God! I hate to even say that person’s name as I honestly get sick to my stomach!) Then concocted a plan to make Howard seem that he was a Svengali!
    >> Sven·ga·li http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/svengali
“Function: noun Etymology: Svengali, villainous hypnotist in the novel Trilby (1894) by George du Maurier Date: 1919
: a person who manipulates or exerts excessive control over another”
[remember this ‘svengali’ word used over and over by O’Quinn, Jack Harding (what a joke that was!]

Absolutely Wrong! Anna was always in charge! She may have had her ups and downs in life like many others, if not for the Howard the person she trusted daily for almost 15 years she would not have made it this long!
This Jackie and Anna’s bio mom knew nothing about Anna’s physical pains and the medications she took! I so believe because medicine was involved that this Jackie and others blew all these lies out of proportion and publicly harmed an innocent man, men for the rest of their life! There is absolutely no way that Howard was ever in charge!

Think about it!!!! If Jackie wouldn’t have started that lie about seeing Howard and Larry together, and the TX family wouldn’t have gone with that false story as true, then Don Clark and Wilma Vice… would not have brought that false subject up to the nannies, and that TX woman would not have said to Larry; ‘Son, does Howard have something on you? A tape?….’ As the nanny’s lawyer put it: “IT JUST BLOWS YOUR MIND!”

Also, let’s not forget this FALSE INFORMATION also was given to Rita Cosby by possibly all of the above. I would bet by JH, VA, DC, WV, and possibly even more! I bet that Mark Speers helped with a lot of FALSE INFORMATION to Rita after his buddy Debra Opri was outed by Larry for exorbitant legal fees!
Here again you have the motive of even Speers; ‘REVENGE!’
Of course this is the way the story appears to me, no one has ever said or written any other believable concrete facts to change my mind.

What an absolute shame! If the revenge of this Hatten woman wouldn’t have started, then later helped by Birkhead’s lawyer and her buddies (including Rita), also pressured with over one million dollars of money spent trying to make these facts stick… WELL! We wouldn’t be here right now standing up for innocent people like Mr. Lin Wood.

note: I truly could not see Mr. Wood ever taking the Anthony case for example… I believe what was stated, he only takes clients he believes in.
He does not go on shows for publicity like the TX side did! He has not tried to sway public opinion. Only one time can I remember he went on to defend his client after months and months of lies and speculation! IMO, Larry King put his reputation at risk by allowing the likes of that Hatten woman to be allowed to spew her lies… Bet he his sorry he got caught up in the media frenzy of Anna Nicole Smith!

    This case is about one word;
    REVENGE

    JMHO on the whole matter.
ps, I so hope that Larry and Howard get together and write a book detailing the ‘take down’ of these men by:
    >two lawyers; (Opri & O’Quinn)
    two investigators; (Clark and Vice)
    >a reporter; (Cosby) who wrote a book of completely un-vetted statements and lies and published it even after a warning letter that the information was false!
    >a sister and brother; (Hattens) who had built up years of hate due to one of them being in prison for so long.
    >a estranged family member of the deceased; who was angry she was not in the will… and so on and so on.

    >>and to all the people who tried to ‘help’ the ones listed above:
    Speers
    Times Square guy
    David Leigh from Splash
    Don Clark
    Wilma Vice…
lets not forget ALL of the bloggers who helped SPREAD the lies from the people who clearly had their own agendas in the attempted ‘take down’ of Howard K. Stern and Larry Birkhead!
THANK GOD FOR FAIR & HONEST PEOPLE LIKE; LIN WOOD!!!

  4. Wow! I sure made that post long, didn’t I?
I got inspired by many things said in chat last night and then Rose’s article today…

please forgive some of my mistakes in the above post.
ie: “made it this long” I meant made it as long as she did…

  5. ops. duh…lol..Rose pretty much did imply what I said…I think we all hope some day that we could get the chance
to actually meet them but I think we all hope that we dont HAVE to meet them.

  6. Watching Lin Wood and Howard K Stern on the Larry King Live show, was one I will not forget in a long while,I could feel the genteel tone in both of there voices,The intelligent, way they discussed, the important matters,In my younger days when I was engaged to a lawyer, who was in Probate law,I met so many high quality lawyers, decent ,kind, and so very professional.Howard and Lin Wood remind me of the good old days,I am so very glad Mr Wood is helping Howard,

  7. Enjoyed reading the article. What a great tribute to a very deserving man! A good attorney in Texas has said “a lawyer cannot serve to masters (his ego and his client) at the same time”. Lin Wood does not let his ego get in the way when fighting the good fight for his client. Howard is very fortunate that he has him on his side, as he well deserves. I hope everyone is safe in Texas.

  8. I believe in divine intervention, and I think that is what brought Lin Wood into Howard’s life.

Rose what a powerful article. We are in such good company, what is it about us that we can see through the media
spin while others seem to be drawn in into whatever the media comes up with.

I think by now we should have the mindset that whenever the media runs with it - that should be the clear sign that we should be VERY sceptical about it.

My prayers and thoughts are with all of you in Texas and as always with Howard and Mr Wood and their team.

  9. Rose thanks for the article.

Lin Wood is such a great attorney with class, dignity, honor and integrity. I’m so glad Howard has Lin to represent him! GO team!!

    Beth sooo enjoyed talking with you in chat last night. Loved your comment #3 and when you said “This case is about one word;
    REVENGE. NO TRUER WORDS SPOKEN!!!

  10. I do not think the media knows what ‘investigative’ reporting even represents. Its as if they sit there waiting for the news to come to them… An event that actually requires them getting off their ass flops time after time. I hold them as responsible as the person that said the lies. Perhaps if they learned investigating and filtering BS it wouldnt have happened

  11. It is a good article and have always known he had faith in Howard and it wasn’t just a job to do.

Rose how could you say you don’t want to meet this man… he is gorgeous. Legal eye candy….just saying LOL

I am glad you are all safe if battered about a bit. I am so sorry about Lyndal losing everything.

  12. I believe the same Sandy. Nice to read u! well if ever met any of them i would smother them with Hugs and say thanks for being the good guys :)

  13. Eye Candy!!! Great descript for all of them!!! HKS LB PI NAZ LIN WOOD HARVEY… Definitely some lookers :) the topix hags can have the ole geezers from the South!!!! Lolol. Ill stick with our guys!!

  14. Beth,
the post was what most have discovered through out this saga. L Wood is one great lawyer(good looking too), but he knew to start with what he was approaching. Most thought Howard was too scared to fight for his rights, but it really shocked them when he stood up and told them to bring it on. All these people coming out to smear Howard was or is a campaign to destroy him, and remove him from the estate and care of Dannilynn. Howard made a promise and he sure is keeping his word. jmo
    Rose great article as usual.
Hope all in TX are okay, and tell Lynderella I am thinking about her. Spirit is with her!

  15. Hi everyone
Beth you’re on a role tonight girl ;)

Just want to say love you guys

Things are going to be alright and HKS may even regain his reputation
before this is all said and done and he will be one rich man!!!!

God is good and he will take care of all of us, we just need to let him.
I am looking forward to his justice being served. All of
those ppl who did evil need to be rectified. Not nice to
hurt God’s angels doing his work. Sure wouldn’t want to be those ppl.

  16. I heard from Lyndal I have told her what all of you have said and she is very touched by the love and caring of the members of this blog.

I had not told her before tonight what you were all saying because I knew she would cry at the kindness and caring of all of you.

They went over to the house today to see what could and could not be saved. Not much can be saved, there are no u-haul trailers or storage places to even retrieve and put things in.

Her daughters came over to help some today; things are still a big mess down there. Lyndal said the cell phone service was very patchy if any of you called and she sounded sharp or such please don’t feel offended she is just over whelmed still. I told her you all knew this, sent your love and were willing to help any way you could. She was very touched by that.

  17. Great article Rose–Beth your post # 3 said it all. Some things in the article i knew others like his mothers death I did not.To have survived what he did and come out as well adjusted as he is says much about this very special man Glad to hear everyone is ok and survived the storm. So sorry about Lyndal though.I know prayers arn’t a whole lot right now but if I can help in any other way please email me and let me know.I give to the red cross but sometimes a personal gift even a small one helps just as much

  18. Please remember Lyndal in your prayers by name. I am going
to find out what she needs as soon as things settle down. Her family
is gathering what they can salvage.
A special thank you to Sunflower for all her hard work and due diligence.
Sunflower has been instrumental in relaying information and keeping us updated.
    God Bless you..
I am feeling a tad better about what happen to her but can’t imagine what
it has to feel like for her.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Roxanne, God Bless you and
thank you for keeping us updated too. I remember Sat. morning waiting
on the news and it was you who relieved us by letting us know Lyndal
    was rescued and safe.
And Rose for all you have done to help Lyndal from when this all started,
I don’t know what to say to you except what I have always said about you,
you are a good women who does God’s will. God Bless you, you truly are
one of God’s angels who looks down on you and smiles.

Man, I am still shaken about it. You really realize how much you love someone
when the reality sets in that you could lose them. Her laughter, her spirit, her shear will…
    love her so much.
I think of lyndal and the way she has always protected us and looked out for us,
Do you want to know something about Lyndal? She takes the bullet for the people
she cares about. Will protect you with her whole being. Sometimes people
get mad at her because she is protecting a loved on. I talk to her about this and
she says to me she doesn’t mind. I know of times she has taken the heat to protect
me even thought I tell her she doesn’t have to, she insist she does.
I love Lyndal, she is a good women who deserves all the love we can give her.
I know you all feel the same way about her. Now I’m gonna cry for her but want her
to feel our love, let it warm her heart and let us help her this time.

  19. Daisy well said. I have become friends with Lyndal through this blog. I have made friends with so many here.

The way Lyndal protects us is amazing. She doesn’t always see it that way and has doubts that she is being harsh.

I love to chat with her and she ends up staying up too late cause of the time difference. The stuff we talk about maybe not always important but I have gotten to make a friend. A friend that is suffering and I am more than 10,000 miles away. But my thoughts are with her and hope she is able to save a lot of her precious things.

Yes she is a good person and the way you ladies have supported each other and worried and tried to find information is just great.
it is what Rose speaks has become.

  20. Heath and Daisy,

Both of you, said what most of feel. Lynderella has made this place special, she has been there for anyone that needs help, and she can take the heat for others. Butt heads with her, is like fighting a pit dog, but she does it trying to keep you safe. I have so much pride and respect for her, even when I don’t agree with her. She is what you call a true friend. I may not be able to get to her, but I feel her pain and sorrow. Lynderella you are in my thoughts, and you will be safe and come through this. Time takes care of everything.

  21. Rose is out of power, will get more details as they come in

  24. #18 Thanks Daisy,
I was glad to help. Lyndal is very special to us and I was so impressed with how everyone here rallied around her in her distress, great job guys. I thank GOD that she is OK and has a place now. Lyndal we love and care about you gal, take care! I will be glad to send a helicopter for ya anytime you need it, LOL.
Rose’s power has been off and on so she is unable to get online. The power company is most likely doing repairs. Thank God she and Ken are safe too.

Heard today the Federal Buildings windows were damages by the storm also. No court for a while.

Please pray for the people of Texas who have lost so much; lives, homes, vehicles and belongs. Hope FEMA will do a better job here than Katrina.

  25. Sunflower, I have not been able to get though so I don’t have any more update then what you provided.
When I talked to her earlier she said the power is sporadic. One side of the street might have while the
    other side is out.
This also means she will be behind on articles. :(

  26. running out of gas in Texas, people waiting in lines for 4 hours to get gas for their generators only to
get to the front and no more gas.
Man it is bad in Texas. I am sick to my stomach, literally feel ill about what is going on there.

  27. Me too Daisy!
I also just heard about a man that was rescued, and he had over 1,000 mosquito bites! I can’t even imagine!
Besides the gas troubles that Daisy mentioned, they said that the power could take up to 4 weeks to be restored in the bad areas!
Also, that the sewers would not be working properly for some time there… I have been in that area years ago, I cannot imagine people living in that humid heat! I am glad that it is not smack in the middle of summer anymore. I believe that would be just unbearable for the people trying to repair things for the residents. The whole situation just breaks my heart for all of those that are suffering. :(

  28. WOW, is what I heard right, over 100,000 out of homes in Texas???? They are running out of gas according to the news.

    This shows the devastation:

  29. Sunflower, I had been trying to keep up w/ all of the news…
I had NO IDEA it was that many homes!

Kids are just coming in now, but I will look at your links in a bit. Thanks for putting them up there!

  30. #29 Beth,
    My pleasure

  31. thanks sunflower
    Houston is really bad too.

  32. savesomething says:

Good morning!!! no news of what was going on yesterday in court?????
Spirit is with all who suffer from hurricaine!!!!

  33. savesomething says:

Oh GBT’ answer was due yesturday to !!!!!Hope we will find it!!!!

  34. Hope so to savers I forgot about that with all that has been going on this weekend.

  35. To the Texas members - I wish each and every one of you the very best in this difficult time. I now know just a small portion of your pain. A few days ago I stated I couldn’t imagine what a storm of Ike’s power would be like. Over the weekend Ohio was on the tail end of Ike with winds of 60 to 70mph. 2 million without power. I’m in the southwestern part of Ohio and had no power for 3 days. My area had over 300k homes without power. Broken trim limbs, split trees, shingles missing, and some windows blown out across the state. Power went out Sunday afternoon and in my case, power was restored about 11:00pm Tuesday night. My sister is still without service. Currently my area has 105k without power. The state has said it may be Saturday before power is restored throughout. One never knows what electricity is until one must do without, fortunately plumbing wasn’t a problem for me. There’s nothing like total darkness with no sounds no hum of the refrigerator, no PC, no TV, no telephone and no microwave (I love some noise). It’s a weird feeling. Hey, I read a book by flashlight. Managed to get the cold foods to my nephew and then ate from canned goods or ate snacks.

10 minutes after getting service restored last night, after making a pot of tea and setting the DVR, it was off to the PC and Rose’s chatroom to talk to friends. To all of you on chat last night, I thank you.

  36. If folks want an update on the Florida case Only Swims and Facts, Please have done a good summary on TMZ

    http://www.tmz.com/2008/09/02/howard-k-gay-schmay-now-you-pay/10#comments

  37. [I ran across this; it makes so much sense. Thought I would share it on the open blog - so all good read.]

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, ‘My son, the battle is between two ‘wolves’ inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.’

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: ‘Which wolf wins?’

The old Cherokee simply replied, ‘The one you feed.’

  40. Sammy1, sometimes we do not realize what we are missing until we no longer have it, even if the loss is temporary. This is why I tell my children to never take for granted what they have even if it’s the little things be thankful you have them.

  41. Sammy I am so sorry to hear you got the tail end.we got the rain for3 or 4 days but nothing else.I lived all of my childhood without running water or a bathroom.I think I was maybe 21 when my parents put in a well and a septic system, with the help of the whole family so it did not cost a fortune.I have learned to keep gallon jugs of water in the basement in case of an outage. You all take care and stay safe
