I have always liked pictures of L. Lin Wood with Richard Jewell for three reasons:
1. Lin Wood found he was a top defamation – libel plaintiff attorney by representing Richard Jewell and for that all of the little guys out there now have a voice.
2. Lin Wood and Richard Jewell traveled together and lectured colleges in journalism classes about ethics, and did that until Jewell died
3. When Jewell died Lin Wood dropped everything and came home to deliver the eulogy at his “friend’s funeral” and told the world the story of the rose that Jewell left each year at the site of the one woman he was not able to save.
All of us should be so lucky to have Wood represent us or give us a voice in this 24/7 infotainment passed as news we all live in, and two any who have Wood as a friend has to be blessed, just my opinion. Wood does not give bloggers interviews. Once Wood and I were on opposite sides of a lawsuit he treated me as a southern gentleman instead of gutting me and making me cry as we hear in lots of lawsuits when Wood lasers in on his opponents.
In a Google alert I got this today and so hunted down the lawsuit of the case that has been settled.
“A student at Florida A & M University has sued two Florida media outlets — Florida A & M University’s The Famuan and ABC-affiliate WFTV — for wrongly reporting that he was disciplined because of fellow student Robert Champion’s 2011 hazing death.
And even though The Famuan, the university’s student newspaper, corrected the error made in a December 2011 story, the student, Keon Hollis, still sued because “the correction was a whisper of innocence that could never overcome the initial shout of guilty,” his attorney Lin Wood told iMediaEthics. Wood explained in an email:
“The initial false online article conveyed to readers that Keon was a participant in the hazing that resulted in the death of his friend. Before the article was corrected, it was republished and discussed on the Internet numerous times.”
The article has since been unpublished, and a correction has been published online reading:
“On Dec. 2, 2011, Keon Hollis of Atlanta was incorrectly identified on thefamuanonline.com as one of four drum majors for the ‘Marching 100′ band dismissed from Florida A&M University following the hazing death of Drum major Robert Champion. Hollis was not suspended, dismissed, expelled or reprimanded in connection to the hazing of Robert Champion. We deeply regret the error.”
Following that December 2012 libel lawsuit over a December 2011 story, Florida A & M University’s School of Journalism and Graphic Communication dean, Dr. Ann Kimbrough, announced a huge shake-up with student newspaper The Famuan in early January, Student Press Law Center reported.”
…After the libel lawsuit was filed, there were several changes made at The Famuan, including a temporary suspension “from publishing,” journalism training for staff, and a change of adviser.
FAMU Journalim School dean, Ann Kimbrough, told iMediaEthics the temporary suspension was in effect for the month of January and indicated it was related to money problems. She wrote:
“The administration postponed the publishing of the first issue until the training and other processes were completed. The Famuan published its first issue on January 30. There are financial strains.”
Before responding to iMediaEthics’ inquiry, Kimbrough noted that because of the pending litigation, she had to “coordinate all responses with our attorney.”
She declined to comment on the libel lawsuit or any new measures at The Famuan because of the libel lawsuit because “this is an active legal matter.” But, she did note in an email to iMediaEthics that the newspaper’s staff had to get “training in areas including ethics, media sales, newspaper management, layout and design, copyediting, etc.”
That bold part is what made me think of Richard Jewell today.
Hollis, the student suing The Famuan, also sued Orlando ABC-affiliate WFTV for its Dec. 5, 2011 story “FAMU student leaders call for an end to hazing.” According to Courthouse News Service, Hollis’s lawsuit indicated WFTV also wrongly reported he was disciplined in relation to the hazing based on The Famuan’s story.
“Hollis says the article attributed its statements about him to FAMU’s student newspaper, The Famuan, which mistakenly identified Hollis as one of four students who had been expelled after Champion’s death. He claims The Famuan removed his name from the original article before WFTV and Cox Media published their piece, but the defendants failed to remove the false and defamatory statements. After Hollis demanded a retraction, WFTV and Cox Media updated the article, stating that Hollis had not been suspended, but he says they failed to mention that Hollis had not contributed to Champion’s death.”
Wood, the attorney who also represented Hollis in his lawsuit against WFTV told iMediaEthics that “The WTFV matter has settled. The FAMUAN lawsuit has been set for mediation by agreement of the parties.” WFTV News Director Matt Parcell confirmed the settlement, telling iMediaEthics by email: “The matter has been settled and we have no further comment.”

Call me a “romantic” but I like to think perhaps Lin Wood has a picture of Richard Jewell in his office and when he defends one of the “damned” as Dan Rather calls Wood as the “voice of the damned”; Wood is grounded by the wrong and horrible aftermath of a client turned friend, Richard Jewell.
I am sure Richard Jewell thinks, “Good job, Lin, good job”.

Dr. Wecht, Dawna Kaufmann, and John J Nazarian will share their opinions on what caused the death of Houston.
John will have something to say about the ex-body guard, Alan Jacobs, who was Houston’s director of security from 1995 until 2002, quit because he said Houston and her now ex-husband Bobby Brown, and those around Houston would not allowed allow him to do his job. Jacobs said that working for the star was like ‘living in the eye of a hurricane’ and added he was ‘constantly trying to fight the swirl of activity that’s around you’. Jacobs had, “eliminated access to her by certain people I thought were negative influences. The reality of it is that you can protect someone from everything but you can’t protect them from themselves.’
Jacobs has said he told Houston, “[I told her,] ‘You hired me to do a job, to protect you … but I cannot protect you from yourself.” Jacob has added that Houston replaced him with family members who would not confront her and dropped the ball on protecting her. He also revealed that one of Brown’s family took over his job – but did not do it properly.

Straight Talk with Celebrity P. I. John J. Nazarian guest tonight is is best selling author Kevin Mitnick. Kevin’s book, Ghost in the Wires: My Adventures as the World’s Most Wanted Hacker, is an autobiography of the onetime “most wanted” criminal of cyberspace. Kevin Metnick recounts his exploits; it is a hacker tells all as he was on the FBI most wanted list.

While he excelled at infiltrating computer systems from a keyboard and had a sharp memory for numbers, “Ghost in the Wires” (written with William L. Simon) really showcases another of Mitnick’s skills: social engineering, or what he describes as “the casual or calculated manipulation of people to influence them to do things they would not ordinarily do.” By doing his research and impersonating authority figures over the phone or by e-mail, Mitnick found he could persuade just about anybody — programmers, technicians, even the nice lady at the Social Security Administration — to give him the things he wanted, like passwords, computer chips and personal information about F.B.I. informants on his tail. “People, as I had learned at a very young age, are just too trusting,” he writes.
It’s this element to his story that makes “Ghost in the Wires” read like a contemporary über-geeky thriller. Many of today’s computer viruses and identity-theft scams — and even the recent phone-hacking scandals of certain newspapers — depend on social engineering mixed with a misuse of technology to dupe the unsuspecting. In that regard, Mitnick’s memoir also serves as a wake-up call for anyone trying to keep personal information private.
Metnick has been out of prison since 2000, Mitnick now works as a security consultant. Metnick is also booked around the world as a speaker.

Perhaps he can explain why Iran’s media is telling the world how they were able to take “control” of a U. S. Drone in the last two weeks and get it to land in their country where they are now studying the latest U. S. technology in “stealth” airplanes and drones.
The U. S. has been warning for years that the most serious attack the U. S. could suffer from is not a typical war like attack by military, but a cyber attack on our infrastructure. John will be asking Kevin what that means and what if anything the average citizen can do about protecting themselves or what they can do to attempt to survive such an attack.
This is going to prove to be one of Straight Talk’s best shows and a must listen to for anyone who own a computer, or works in a number of businesses today.

I had tuned into the press conference of Gloria Allred and her client, Sharon Bialek, the first woman to step forward publicly with sexual harassment charges against Herman Cain. I had wanted to see the interview, partially because the count is up to four women and partially because if a woman has been “wronged” in the last few years, here comes Allred.
However, I only watched about 4 – 6 minutes just the introduction by Allred and a few comments by Allred about her client Sharon Bialek when across the bottom of the screen came the announcement that the Dr. Conrad Murray verdict was in regarding the death of Michael Jackson. Once again bad timing for Allred, seems there was another crises like this that was bad timing once before for her, but I don’t remember that now, or who it was.
I remember that GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain had scheduled a news conference for his denial and I had better things to do…. but then the Google alerts began to come in…. and with those the name L. Lin Wood Jr. I perked up and for those of you who are behind in the world of politics he said, she said, he said, and piling on candidates, often eating their own; I wanted to know what was going on to pull in two attorneys not normally found in any cases together.

So it is over, up steps Lin Wood and the four women fold???? Not on your life, Gloria Allred is not to be deter by Wood. She was back on this morning with her client Bialek “suggesting today, Wednesday, that the presidential contender was lying yesterday when he said he doesn’t remember Bialek.”
So now we have the first real shot across the bow and a declaration of perhaps a war in words or actions soon to follow.

The world waits for the Jury Verdict to come in next week in the Dr. Conrad Murray Trial in the Involuntary Manslaughter charge in the death of Michael Jackson.
What is Dr. Murray and his lead defense attorney Edward Chernoff thinking and doing today, waiting for the jury to come back perhaps as early as tomorrow with a verdict.

He also worked homicides for over 20 years and finished his career in Robbery-Homicide Division (RHD) which handles major cases including serial killers, multiple murders, media and high-profile cases, officer-involved shootings, and assaults and murders on police officers. He also worked the Rampart Corruption Task Force for two years. William Cox was also involved or handled several high-profile cases over the years including the Kimes (mother-son grifters who were responsible for 3 murders in LA, NY, and the Bahamas); the Goetz of the West case; the murder of the pregnant mother at LAX; plus several others.
William Cox has appeared on Investigative Discovery channel, 48 Hours, and E-entertainment. He is currently employed by the US State Dept. as a background investigator.
William Cox’s last case he worked on at RHD was a Chinese immigrant student attending USC who had gone to a frat party and had attempted to pull a gun and start shooting students. He was wrestled to the ground by other students who then called police. After a search warrant was served on the suspect’s apartment Cox and three other detectives were sent to NY City to investigate and attempt to identify approximately 20 persons he had targeted to possibly kill. (This incident occurred shortly after the mass murders at West Virginia Tech.) Cox was also working on a murder where a husband set his car and wife on fire on the Golden State Frwy. Cox had also been working (for the past four years) on a double homicide that had occurred in 2002 wherein two victims were killed in their car and their car set on fire. That murder was the story that 48 Hours has done and shown on television in February 2011.
With this combined years of experience this is a must tune in a listen and even ask a question of two as to what we should expect this coming week of the verdict watch for Dr. Conrad Murray.

Many of you have noted that Ken has not been on the blog hardly at all for a few months. Other then the settlement TMZ. com reported this morning of; “The Michael Jackson Estate has settled its lawsuit against the Heal the World Foundation, and the Estate is now copacetic with the charity using Michael Jackson’s name… …The attorneys settled the beef, so Heal the World can now use Michael’s name and likeness, and Katherine [Jackson] will sit on the Board of Directors of the charity.”, nothing has come out of the federal court this morning. Once it does we will post it at the end of this article.
It does appear Katherine Jackson’s new lawyer, Perry Sanders, was able to negotiate at the eleventh hour with John Branca and the Estate of Michael Jackson’s attorney, Howard Weitzman.
We are only putting up the newest documents and then from February 7, 2011 in regards to the deposition of Howard Mann and filings from March 4, 2011 on behalf of the Estate.
