Since we have snow on the ground I may have to drive to a large store and walk the aisles for exercise. Thankfully, Max seems to enjoy playing in the snow. You should see him running, finding a broken branch and trying to bring it home. When Max comes back inside he has snow caked on his legs, paws and his mustache. He is such a pleasure to have around.

January 10, 2010 – 12:21PM

A powerful 6.5 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of northern California on Saturday, the US Geological Survey said.

The quake occurred 35km west of Ferndale and 360km northwest of Sacramento, at a depth of 16km.

Local media said police in Ferndale reported some damage to the city hall building, but gave no initial reports of injuries.

The quake was measured on the open-ended Moment Magnitude Scale.

The yard guy plowed the driveway and sidewalks at 5:30am. My sister checked on me at 7:00am on her way to work. The hospital called at 10:00am to check on me. My brother-in-law is coming over this afternoon to shovel the patio for Max. All physical activity is restricted for several weeks.

Beverly, regarding the potato soup – Bear Creek does all the work and puts in a package – add 8 cups of water, cook for 15 minutes and ready to eat. Bear Creek has several different soups though I’ve only tried their Creamy Potato and Cheese Potato. Nothing else is needed though they offer suggestions on back of the package. When I take the time to make potato soup it is the basics of potatoes, milk, flour for thickening, carrots and onion just like what Mom would make. Sure wish I had her soup kettle, always loved that old kettle and the memories associated with it. Knowing I would be laid up for awhile, I do have chili, vegetable, 15-bean and potato soups prepared and frozen in single serving containers for ease of preparation.

This morning I was on line and my 7 year old GD [yes both GD and GS are the same age matter of fact they are 18 days apart] was sitting with me cause school was two hours late. Anywho we were reading various things and came across that today would have been Elvis’s 75th birthday. Well she wanted to know who Elvis was so I pulled him up on YouTube…ha-ha wouldn’t you know even she thought he was a cute [her words] man. Therefore, you see no matter young or old, girls still think Elvis Presley was a good-looking man in his younger days :thumbsup: What got me was some of his videos/music I pulled up was before I was even born; yeah I had to go there :woot:

Yes, I honestly know what you mean… To me it is scary that those sci-fi films with the background of the Country in ruins may one day

Beth [85] Talking about Michigan, we saw a show on the History Channel the other night called ‘Armageddon Man’ where an ex-marine was showing some survival tips on how to survive after something happens to society. We at first thought he was in N.O. right after the flooding, because of all the abondoned buildings and such. Nope, it was Detriot. That was sad how that part of the town could so easily be used for a setting in a show about the fall of civilization.

JMA, about the tator soup, I put tators, butter, milk, lil bit of water, can of corn and last night, cut up some left over ham.

Beverly, I had prepared potato soup the night before surgery so I could eat upon my return. My sister took the day off so she could be with me for the day. She then stayed with me for a couple of hours after being released and then called before she went to bed and will again check on me Friday morning. Have taken my meds for the day and now on the road to recovery.

Let me say Max my puppy has been wonderful as well. He slept with me during my nap and has been on his best behavior sensing Mommy is not her usual self. Animals have a way of knowing or sensing when things have changed with the household.

Heck, I opened the mail and the cable bill was 26 dollars more than usual, I called up and they said my 12 month special
was over. I said give me another special or I was going to get services elsewhere… Now I am locked into the same price
(plus .25 cent more) for good until I want. [even got a upgrade for faster cable high speed]
Now! That’s what I’m talking about! (Thanks Sam the Cable man (who is locatedin Wisconsin) mighty cold up there!
We had a nice chat after I calmed down, very nice man!

I totally agree about the factories being outsourced by foreign countries.
LOL They were talking on one channel this evening about a bowling factory in Michigan (they make the bowling balls, pins, ect…)
Well a few years back the factory in Michigan brought in Mexicans from Mexico to learn how everything in the factory is ran, then Michigan
closed their factory and opened it up in Mexico. NOW! They have closed the factory in Mexico and opened one up in China to save $.
They had the Mexican guy on there talking (in Spanish) saying that the Americans had sold them out for pennies on the dollar…
WTH did they do to the factory workers in Michigan, I say! Crazy and stupid, yet… the dang government puts all of these taxes and regulations
on all of these businesses and if they cannot make profit, well they cannot stay open anyway. What a mess!

“The state Senate has postponed a vote to Monday on wherher illegal immigrants, who must pay out-of-state
tuition to attend New Jersey public colleges, will be allowed to pay just the much lower in-state rates.

The Senate had scheduled a vote on the issue for Thursday, but after a long debate about legalizing gay marriage — a proposed bill that met defeat — legislators decided to table the in-state measure until next week.

Proponents of the in-state bill said they were not disappointed and noted the delay would them give still more time to make their case for giving undocumented students better access to public colleges.

“We’ve waited eight years to have this vote,” said Cid Wilson, vice chairman of the board of trustees for Bergen Community College and a vocal supporter of the bill. “We can wait a few more days.”

The bill would benefit an estimated 2,000 illegal immigrants, those who support the measure say. Those advocates add that those immigrants sometimes must forego college because of their inability to pay out-of-state rates. Those rates are often twice as high as in-state tuition, which is about $11,000 for a four-year public university.

“It’s going to be tough,” said Wilson, of Leonia. “If it passes, I think it will be very close. We need to remind the legislators that this is not an immigration bill; it’s an education bill.””
