Adam Lambert Kiss Kerfuffle…Maybe we Haven’t Come that far Insight by John J. Nazarian!

One has to wonder what gives with the TV executives and their ability to reason? How could a swap of spit be OK between Ms. Madonna and Ms. Britney Spears at the 2003 MTV music awards (it was a very nice visual, two great looking and talented women!)…and now, BANG!
I thought we were long past this, but November 2009, Adam Lambert gives a keyboard player an “in the moment” lip lock and all hell has broken loose? How could this be any different than the 2003 MTV “swap”…..is it a gay thing? Is it an Adam thing?
…At least it was two relatively attractive males and not a Perez Hilton type… …“Millionaire” (according website valuation speculators, who’ve been wrong before…just ask Rupert Murdoch how he feels about his MySpace purchase!)….
…As for the TV execs, anyone who has ever had to deal with them realizes, first and foremost, who you deal with on November 1 at 11:00 A.M. will more likely not be there December 15th when you return to discuss what you talked about on November 1st…replaced by another “seat warmer” aka TV Exec. Executives are a dime for four dozen in Hollywood, and for whoever it was that saw the Adam kiss to be a problem, it was all timing…a few weeks either way it more likely would have gone the other way, No Big Deal.
Once again, if two males can’t kiss on television as a part of a show in 2009, what hope does the gay community have for the “marriage thang” being accepted? And my opinion on that is very simple: let them have the opportunity to marry and then DIVORCE! This is a classic case of be careful what you wish for! Making commitments, getting married and then the divorce, gay people have an absolute right to share the misery of the straight community and have a DIVORCE or two!

I really get stunned at the TV in the USA.. it sometimes is so prudish. The big deal about Janet Jacksons nipple….this gay kiss etc. Then you have shows like the Shield etc and no real swear words but blood and guts everywhere. What is the most offensive?
If it is shown at the appropriate time slot why not? You can always switch channels or just turn it off!
I will boast that Aussie TV and English not to mention the European stuff is very broad minded but then we don’t have a very large Religious Political Block of voters…..and I bet that gets me in trouble but I am glad we don’t.
#1 Heath you are right we have shows on prime time here with murder, blood, guts, guns etc. for the kids to watch but don’t ever try anything sexual or WHAM you have those far right “theologists” screaming… they seem not to be able to keep church and state separate and believe they should legislate morality… Kind of shameful as most of us really are not radical we are moderate independents and often I am left shaking my head… our TV has been full of a show with the news of Adam Lambert was “censored” prior to it being shown in two western time zones here… although the part of being cut out is all over the news I did not realize it was because of a “kiss” during prime time… Some times I think we are going backwards and it is because the radicals control our politics because they do create a block of about 10% – 15% but they stick together and they do have a lot of money power and voting power to dictate to the politicians.
Heath, you are so correct as to the content of English television, Benny Hill was without a question in my mind one of the funniest human beings on the planet. His material was funny and raunchy, I so loved all of his shows. He appeared as an edgy Red Skelton, who I watched as a child and still watch clips from some of my clients screening rooms when I get a chance.
Also, our researchers are so good, the photo of Perez’s mother visiting him was found through hours of research, we hope you all enjoy it! And Rose thanks for picking up our stories and stand by for the piece I did on Tiger Woods and the ultimate ‘media whore’.
Thanks again,

John Benny Hill was a very rude man…but he was funny.
Perez Hiltons mum???? Now that conjures strange things in my head.. I thought he was an alien sent to disrupt the life forms on the blue planet…my mistake !
It wasn’t the kiss that was the issue for most of us but if one sites that they can conveniently make the Madonna comparison. ’nuff said.
Was Adam trying to make a statement for gay rights, or was he hoping the shock value would get his name in headlines? Didn’t he play coy about his sexuality during his run on AI? He’s getting more press than the winner.
I’m in the eastern time zone. Nothing was censored. What was censored later was the simulated oral sex NOT the kiss, not the bondage and S&M, not laying between a woman’s legs and AL pulling at the crotch of her panties, not a female dancer grabbing his crotch.
IMO AL was going for shock. If you are going for shock then it’s hypocritical to then complain about people being shocked and upset. I was disappointed that AL didn’t win AI. It now seems to me that his performance was a grab for attention. He has succeeded.
The Madonna kiss IMO was of the same nature, a desperate grab for attention and exploiting gays.
I think AL has succeeded in setting back gay acceptance. He fed into the idea that all gays are into perversion. Although some people here may disagree, I think bondage and S&M is dehumanizing whether it’s gay or straight.
I apologize in advance for the length of this post but I feel that there are several points that need to be pointed out regarding Adam Lambert and the kiss at the AMA. Most of the regulars here are use to my long posts and have been very supportive in that regard. My sincere thanks to those who are accepting and supportive of my long posts.
I am not promoting gay or straight relationships in this post. Gay and/or straight relationships is a topic for other discussions. I’m just pointing out the double standards that I see regarding Adam Lambert’s performance. I do think I am fairly open minded and intelligent enough to see a double standard when I see one.
I believe that in a certain defamation lawsuit in NY that the defendent said (not an exact quote) as part of her defense that when she wrote in her book that the plaintiff was gay it wasn’t defamatation of the plantiff’s character because it is acceptable in our society today to be gay. The reaction to Adam Lambert’s kiss of another male in his AMA performance says to me that this is DEFINITELY not the way it is.
John memtioned the Madonna & Britney kiss on stage. Was the outrage shown over that kiss equal to the outrage that there has been over a few seconds of Adam Lambert kissing another male during one of his performances at the AMA that was shown on TV?
Has anyone watched other TV shows that are not awards shows where primetime night shows as well as daytime soaps showing characters who are practically naked in bed in which it is pretty obvious and talked about between the characters in the scene that they had just had sex. Other shows that are in primetime day and night have shown scenes of gay couples displaying affection. If my memory is not totally wrong I have on ocassions seen a kiss or kisses exchanged between gay couples on soap operas.
I do recall one particular soap opera that will remain nameless and is no longer on air. If you watched this soap then you will know which one I’m referencing here. On this particular soap opera there were several scenes and several episodes where two males were in bed or getting out of bed practically naked. It was pretty obvious even to the very young that in the scenes the two men were having sex. The scenes were showing proof that the two men were gay. One of the male characters in the show was married and living a double life as a straight man. When his wife found out that he was having an affair with another male it was openly discussed by the characters in different scenes. I have not seen anything that indicates that this soap opera was cancelled due to any potential controversy over any of these scenes that were shown.
What about all of these female singers who come on stage half naked and do sexually provocative moves throughout their entire performance? What about the male singers who are constantly grabbing at their crotch (male organs) during their performances? Why is it ok for children to watch these performances? Why is there no such outrage when these things are shown on TV during the times when children are watching TV but there has been such outrage over a few seconds of Adam Lambert kissing another male at an awards show performance?
The kiss between Adam and the other male lasted a few seconds. In fact the kiss was so qucik that I wasn’t sure if it was a real kiss or just had the appearance of a kiss until I heard all the outrage over it the next day when it was one of the big news stories of the day? I would think that the sexually provocative moves that last throughout some singers entire performance would be more offensive than a kiss between two males that lasted a few seconds. I want to make it clear that I am not saying that Adam’s kiss during his performance was offensive to me.
Why isn’t there the same type of outrage shown when these other things are shown on TV during the times when children are watching TV as has been shown over a few seconds of Adam Lambert kissing another male at an awards show performance?
Where was the outrage (not saying there should have or have not been any outrage over either evernt) regarding the kiss between Adam and another male that was in a non performance setting? That kiss was shown on TV and all over the internet. Any cihild with the most basic knowlege of accessing internet sites could see that kiss. I’m not saying there should have or have not been any outrage over either action.
Adam has been open and honest about his being gay? Isn’t honesty something to be admired in a person?
I personally think that the focus should be on Adam’s musical talent and creativity (I personally feel that Adam is very musically talented and creative) which is much more interesting to me than this few seconds of a kiss with another male on TV that lasted a mere few seconds.
Aren’t there ALOT more serious and more important things going on in our country that affect each of us on a personal level and the horrible situations and things all over the world that are happening to other human beings that should be focused on other than a few seconds of a kiss between two males on TV?
I could think of a lot more to say on this subject but I think that what I have said here is more than enough to make my point.
#7 sarah54 Since I did not see the show I was shocked once I heard on the news that an “inappropriate not on the script” scene had been edited out before the show was shown on the west coast. I really paid no attention to it thinking there had been probably a Janet Jackson type of Oooooooooooppppppppssssss… Then I read this article and thought WTH, is it “just” about this???
I just found this article which pretty much summarizes my take on AL’s performance.
Adam Lambert is merely the latest pop star to link sex with violence.
